What happened?

These were taken on fresh ReraPan 127 400ASA film in an old Kodak A.G. Vollenda Radionar f:3.5 F=5cm Folding Camera (possibly dirty inside). Developed in fresh Xtol 1+1. Negative scan.
What caused the mottling in the picture?

Interesting, I have seen similar artifacts on the negatives of a friend ReraPan 100 or 400 i can't be sure. They were developed in rodinal.
I don't have images I will consult with him.
Now, It seems more likely that this is an emulsion fault or something to do with the backing paper.

I know you say it's fresh stock, but has the roll been anywhere really hot ?

I have had that happen when the paper developer had gone bad, but this shows a film scan so I am baffled too.

The film had just been delivered 3 days before I shot it - the roll shot the same day and developed 3 days after that. Room temp the entire time. I have 3 more rolls from the same order that I haven’t shot yet

How was it packed before exposure? In a sealed sachet?
By the way, that an artefact looks like a classic artefact described repeatedly by manufacturers, does not necessarily mean it has the same cause, but of course one should first investigate in that direction. Here: storing under humid conditions

I wrote to Freestyle about the mottling on my Rerapan 400 and sent them negative scans. They opened a roll of the same at their store and discovered spots in the emulsion so they are saying that it is a bad batch and will replace my (3) rolls recently purchased.
