Hi Walter,

Is the Agfa Vista Plus and Ferrania Solaris the same film in different packages?

How would you describe the differences between them?

Thanks, Bill

Bill,

Agfa Vista Plus is a mediocre consumer grade film. I find it low in saturation, yet rather contrasty. The grain on ISO 200 Agfa Vista Plus is comparable to Fuji Superia ISO 400. I wouldn't use this film for any high end applications, but since it's very cheap (2,39 eur where I live), I use it for snapshots with my Himatic 7s. As for the Ferrania, I couldn't say because I haven't developed a single roll of it yet. I bought a batch of 50 expired rolls and was planning on having them bulk processed. I use these expired rolls mainly for artsy experiments .As far as I know, Ferrania Solaris and Agfa Vista Plus are not the same thing. Solaris is a cheap Italian film (made in Italy, too), Agfa Vista Plus is currently being made in Japan (at least, mine is).
Anyway, with the very low prices of both the Ferrania and the Agfa, buying a few rolls each to compare yourself certainly wouldn't be a waste of money.
Regards,
walter

Edit: serial # of a roll of Agfa Vista Plus is 806254, Solaris is 013941

Loaded and finished a roll of the old (expired 2006) T-Max 100 (120) in the Mamiya RB67. Grabbed the old data sheet for dev times. If only my 120 reel had arrived I could have developed it today. With luck the reel and tank will arrive tomorrow or the next day.

I've been exposing the new Rollei RPX 400 (135) lately. It's quite contrasty and grainy. I'm beginning to like it.

I've tried Delta 3200 for the first time in many years, rated it at 1600. Will develop tonight and see how it worked out.

Home roasted? You're supposed to use the rot-gut instant coffee for film development and save the good stuff for personal consumption!! :D

Expired March 2010 ferrania Solaris 200, 126 format shot in the Kodak Instamatic 500. Dropped off at the lab today, still not set up for C41 developing at home.

Expired 2006 Ilford Delta 400, 135 format shot in the Canon FTbN. Will soup it, probably tonight in the Nikor SS single roll tank along with the Expired 2006 Kodak T-Max 100, 120 format shot in the Mamiya RB67 if I can figure out the plastic Paterson System 4 reels and tank. Never used plastic until now, ordered a steel 120 reel too but it hasn't arrived yet so I will give plastic a try.

This week, I'm going through:

135: Fuji Neopan Acros 100
135: Arista EDU Ultra 400.

The first on my Pentax K-1000, and the second will be for the camera my sister's girlfriend is getting me.. or so I think!

Another expired 2003/6 roll of Fujicolor NPH 400, just one left of that. Shot in RB67, 10 shots per roll, easy to finish in one session.

Another roll of ferrania Solaris 200 is loaded in the Kodak Instamatic 500. I still need to start the Ilford 3200 in the EOS 650. Both will be used for some Xmas shots, flash with the 200 obviously, 3200 for candid shots.

I souped the 2006 expired T-Max 100 and 2006/12 expired Delta 400 yesterday, both turned out pretty well but the plastic reel is a PITA so I'm looking forward to trying a steel 120 reel.

I went out in the snow again today with Neopan 1600. Thinking about what VaryaV said in the thread about Delta 3200; we had bright sun on the snow today and I tried to shoot scenes of high contrast in order to exploit the grain when printing. I love the way grain appears in the areas that transition from deep black to pure white. Hopefully, I got a few shots today that will print well.
