I don't think that the sound the shutter makes has any significant effect on the negatives or the resulting prints...at least I've never noticed any....but maybe that's the secret behind the Leica ?
Nah, the secret behind Leica is ego.
or lack of...
Why do you keep painting every Leica owner with this brush?Nah, the secret behind Leica is ego.
Why do you keep painting every Leica owner with this brush?
I personally own Leica cameras and lenses because I like using them - no other reason. And I do use them for their intended purpose, all the time. They're not a status symbol, jewelry, etc. for me
If you don't like Leica cameras/lenses or think they're overpriced then it's your perogative to not buy them. But these, repeated, silly jabs at Leica owners are getting old.
Save your breath.Bitching Leica is getting old. Once you realize that the cost of Leica ownership is among the lowest. It ends up paying you. In the end, even a Big mac costs more than a Leica. But of course, takes a brain to understand.
Save your breath.
It seems the point is demonstrated.
If you're agreeing with that miserable troll, you've got bigger problems than little old me, that's for certain.
You egotistical SOBI have to say it's pretty nice using a camera that just feels so right, beat up on it for a few years, then find out it's now worth $500 more than what you paid for it.
You can determine what point is demonstrated by that.
Y'all have to lighten up. I'm sure I have friends who shoot Leica's and I wouldn't disown them for it... although I can't think of any right off the top of my head. But it is still my belief that it takes a special kind of person to spend that much money on such a simple piece of equipment, and that the majority of people who use them do it not for the qualities it possesses, but for the perceived fame and acceptance they receive because of it. If that is offensive, then by all means, the ignore button is there for a reason.
Anyway. Just don't want this site to disappear down into petty squabbling over stuff.
Is today divide the forum day? What special kind of person are you referring to? Lots of people here use Leicas and all other brands of cameras as well.Y'all have to lighten up. Must be a full moon or something. Drew is on one thread calling out forum members daring to use a Lomo or similar inexpensive camera, and over here it's those using Leicas that are called out.Nah, you're not baiting me into anything else. I've agreed to disagree.
Moving on.
The secret behind the Leica is exactly the same secret behind the Nikon S rangefinders; Namely, a horizontal traveling curtain.

That's not unusual, there's a ton of cameras with a horizontal travelling curtain. These range from the Nikon F, F2 & F3 through the lowly Cosina-built Canon T60 (IIRC the last SLR introduced with a horizontal shutter, it was a special ask from Canon to Cosina for that model as all the related CS-1 variants have a vertical shutter).
I have the Nikon FM3a which is absolutely amazing in all respects except one: the sound it makes. The tinny metallic "ding" is just awful. All other cameras I own (digital and film) all sound beefier, more like "clunk". It's not about loudness, it's about the tone. Even the Mamiya 645 Pro TL with its bigger mirror sounds better.
I wonder if there's another F which is better in that regard. I searched on Youtube, and the F3HP tone seems lower, but I doubt the quality of recording on Youtube can be comparable between videos.
