I'm not sure what the market is for another 35mm 100 speed film, there are many Tmax and Delta, PF4, Foma, Kentmere and Finess in bulk load as well as many clones. Fine grain as compared to Tmax 100 or Foma 100?

This happened when Kodak re-released Ektachome. The scans they posted on social media weren't so great. Film turned out okay. You can't really tell anything without the negatives in your hands, which is why everyone posting scans of Ferrania wasn't that helpful either. If you are interested in exploring this new film, you are just going to have to order a few rolls and see for yourself. The internet is good for some things, not so good for others.

Anyone seen what a roll of this new ORWO film is going to cost?

If the Orwo marketing people follow the "If you are interested in exploring this new film, you are just going to have to ignore these crappy-looking scans we're posting here, order a few rolls and see for yourself." marketing strategy, I guarantee you they will sell zero rolls.

I mean, if i'm looking for a nominal "ISO 100" film i can choose between killer films like Delta 100, Acros II 100, TMax 100, FP4, Adox CHS II 100; then I can even pay less and get Fomapan 100, which can look much better than those scans of course. And then there's the offers from Rollei too, Shanghai GP3, etc. So they need to do something to steer the potential customer into believing there is some compelling reason to buy this "Orwo NP100" instead of the aforementioned film. Some reason! So far I can't see any.

I wish all the success to the Original Wolfen factory/brand, and I keep fingers crossed and wish them success with their color film. But these sample pictures are a wrong step towards successful sales, in my opinion.

People will buy ORWO with or without scans because it is new and different. ORWO will have no trouble selling its initial run of 36,000 rolls.

I hope they don't promote these sample shots too much, they look horrible.

As per the new Orwo shopping site, the scans posted in the earlier announcement of their new film Wolfen NP100 are by doreenboehnke. The new site showcases more work by the same photographer with Orwo UN54, Wolfen DP31 and Wolfen DN21. There seems to be remarkable consistency across these films.

You are kind in your assessment of these scans. I wish I could be as polite as you are.

I would go as far as saying these are the worst scans I've seen in a long time. Seems to be a combination of poor exposure, poor development, and massive tampering with both highlights and shadows in photoshop. Truly terrible, especially the following one:

As someone who doesn't print and only values film by how it looks when it is exposed well, developed well, AND scanned correctly, I cannot produce a judgment on this line of products and won't be buying any I think.

It's as if someone told the intern: "Whoa, these pictures are way too contrasty, they don't represent what our new film can do!" And the intern went and smushed the display contrast into the bottom half of the tonal scale. "Voilà boss, less contrast now!"

I'm not liking the sample pictures.

Same here. They remind me of the times when I've developed film and something went wrong. But, if someone likes that look, there you go. On my end, it's purely personal taste.

This is the website of the featured photographer doreenboehnke:
https://licht-blicke.net/. Found the link from the watermark of the showcased pics in the Orwo site. I didn't look too hard, but didn't find any B&W pics in the gallery. But one thing is clear - Orwo hired a professional photographer to shoot their new film.

A photographer who to own statement since 2004 only works digital.

And who also thought that this was a good idea.

Do you guys have any idea how much it costs to have a wedding dress dry cleaned?

I'm not going to comment about the wedding photo.
But a comment about the photographic background of the person who shot the example photos is probably germane.
But I think the subject is covered.

She seems to have fractures on both forearms as well. I hope she doesn't get that strapping wet. The price of the film will depend on its name. Might be OK if they stick with Orwo NP100 but Wolfen has that "racy " feel about it.

A high contrast pic of a shadowy figure and the Riesenrad plus the name of Harry Lime on the box and the sky's the limit :D

Is she missing a thumb on her left hand? I guess I shouldn't throw stones as I live in a glass house. My Photoshop skills swapping body parts aren't that great.

I am still thinking about what it took for the photographer to talk the bride into going swimming in her wedding dress. And what about the groom? What did the photographer talk him into doing?

Let's not forget about the new ORWO NP100 film. At $10.00/roll it seems worth investigating if you are not happy with your current film or you just like experimenting.

I'll go along with your Harry Lime on the box suggestion as long as it is Orson Welles portraying him. I won't tell anyone that The Third Man takes place in Vienna and not Wolfen if you won't.

I miss the old days when a film manufacturer would give a new film to a master, or at least someone that knew what they were doing. Can't tell anything about this film from those images. Kind of sad to see.

I wonder if they are going to improve their distribution here in the US. Almost impossible to find their films here and ORWOna is always out.

I see they have a new 400 speed film coming out in a few months. I'll have to get some of that when it is available.

I remember seeing a local exhibit of AA’s work with Polaroid. Definitely some very enjoyable prints, but a majority of the work was very small images with lots of notes about the speed of the film and so forth. Definitely not his best work, but interesting in it’s own right. Hard to judge someone from their work testing a new product. I am not saying they made the best choice, but it may fit the demographic that they are trying to reach. Namely the digital generation that has never used (or seen) film before. If it works then good on them. Posting here may have been a pore choice, but that is neither here nor there

www.orwo.shop was an empty shell up until recently, but there's a lot of interesting things now, Aside from wolfen NP100.

If I'm not mistaken, you could only buy in bulk, and it wasn't easy to get your hand on UN54 and N75. Looks like they now sell 35mm 36exp cassettes !

What is wolfen NP400 ? Is it N75 or a new emulsion ?
