Edit: oops.. wrong forum... how do I edit/move to BW?

I've developed plenty of films and never had a bad result... but this time.. it's weird.

The 400tx was processed in xtol 1:1 for 8m45s, agitation 30s then 10s every minute, followed by 1 minute stop bath (just water), followed by 5 minutes fixer (adofix plus 1+9).

The film has weird brownish pattern, spaning from the middle towards the sprockets, but the sprocekts are not affected as much. In addition, there is what seems to be a white spot in the part of film which was not exposed at all. I don't know if it's relevant, but the film also some purple tint, which I thought was characteristic of t-max, not tri-x.

The only difference I've made this time was using Adofix rather than tetenal I've been using before.

My first thought was under/over fixing. But then I saw the post about x-rays and remembered I did go through airport security... could that be the cause? I bought the film at destination, so I only went through security once.

I'm crushed, it was the only film/camera I took on vacations :-(

The brown appears to be due to under fixing. Have you tried to refix and rinse?
White spot looks like a crease in the film but its not very clear in the photo.

The xrays usually appear as wavy lines on the film but one pass shouldnt be capable of doing any damage.

Havent used adofix but I use a 1-4 dilution in ilford rapid fixer and that is 5 minutes required for fixing... so Id hazard a guess that the dilution wasnt strong enough for a 5 minute fix.

ilford rapid fixer. I think you can fully recover.

If you dont have any other fixer I believe an extended dip of 5-10 mins in fix should be beneficial.

Speaking from experience I have refixed and washed film a day later after drying and had it come out perfect so dont worry:smile: Be happy

Tried re-fixing a piece of the unexposed film and voila, it works! Thank you all!

Subquestion: how do I dry already cut film? I haven't noticed the problem before I cut it to 6 photos per track...

Just hang it up as normal through a perforation. If you use the film clips with pins, just put one pin through a perforation.

Or just use bulldog clips on the corner.

Well.. sometime ago, I happened to find an old (back from 2010) badly fixed negative (allover reddish tint and some streaks) ..put into fresh ilford rapid fixer for 5-7 minutes, and that brought it back to life

Oh dont say that! I have a set from last year that are yellow and keep meaning to refix. Knowing this means I will most certainly procrastinate this further :sideways:
