I just finished a couple of prints this weekend that I think came out great on Seagull VC. I printed them on 13 year old 11x14 Oriental VC PLUS paper. I wish I had more of it, but I'm down to just a few sheets left. It was a very easy printing session as the HP5+ and old Tri-X 320 negatives almost printed themselves. Drew, I did find that when I selenium toned them they didn't take on the Plum-purple look that many papers do. Just a hint of color. Still, I liked the look very much. I have no idea what the new Oriental paper is like, but I might just buy some to try. If I don't like it I always have my Ilford multigrade paper. John W

The Oriental VC RC paper is very nice, and compares well with Ilford MGIV RC. It does respond more to toning than the Ilford version.

Matt, have you used any of theVC FB yet?

Nope - I only consider using FB when I am working in someone else's darkroom, and haven't done so for a long time.

I noticed that my latest package of VC-ll does not show made in Japan on it. The earlier pack of VC and also a warmtone package do read Made In Japan on them. So does anyone know if this paper is really currently made in Japan or not?

Well, I heard rumors that So & So makes it now and they are not in Japan. Don't know if it's true or not, but I bet somebody will chime in and tell us where and who it is. John W

Any update on this? Maybe I will shoot them an e-mail and see if they will say if it is made in Japan or not. It would be sad if another manufacturer had to give up.

I know no more then before and shooting them an email might get you an answer. I was going to buy some Seagull VC fiber, but bought Ilford instead. If the newer Seagull VC fiber was close to the quality of the old I'd buy it in a minute. John W

I called Oriental and they did not want to tell me where the paper was made...They told me it was not made in Japan and that the factory "has moved from Japan". Perhaps they are now simply cutting another paper rather than having their own emulsions? I still think I am going to order some soon.
