) we get mass panic and everything grinds to a halt with just one snowflake, But we're made of sterner stuff in t' North!

Snowmageddon, heavy snow we're snowed in, fortunately, my wife and I are both retired and don't have to go anywhere, and have plenty of food in stock. My eldest son who lives in South Wales tells me on the phone that the snow is so bad there that his office is closed, but he can work on his computer at home because he has access to government mainframe computer.
Generally, in the U.K, there are severe weather warnings and people are advised to only travel if absolutely necessary, most trains are cancelled and most airports are closed as well as most schools are also closed.

Pretty much the same for me, been working from home the past couple of days. Awful on the roads round here, A303 up the road from us on national TV today because the snow came down so fast yesterday vehicles ended up trapped between the hills some overnight. Been hearing stories on social media of people taking anywhere from 5 to 11 hours to do 30 min to 1 hr drives last night. We knew surely though this could happen, a friend of mine ended up sleeping in his car over night near Shepton Mallet the last time we had weather like this, exact same thing vehicles got stuck in snow on the hills and the roads then just gridlock.
It is finally raining here.

Temperature is finally moderating a bit. Today, had some showers in the afternoon, but otherwise, a cloudy day with temps in the upper 40s deg F (around 7-9 deg C). Tomorrow, supposed to be mostly sunny with temps around 50 deg F/10 deg C. By next Sunday, mid-upper 50s and mostly sunny.

It’s been raining every day since I arrived in Portugal - I don’t want to complain, being stuck somewhere in snowbound Europe would be worse (as a traveller, being unprepared with needed boots/jacket, plus maybe not being able to go anywhere). Luckily it lets up every now and then.
A glorious day in Miami today around 80F not a cloud in the sky with a light cool breeze. Not the kind of day I prefer for photography so I spent it with my young grandchildren and their outdoor activities in shorts and a tee shirt. (not really rubbing it in remember we had hurricane Irma last year)

The big storm pretty much missed us in Western PA. I miss living in New England! I hope all the members up in upstate NY and NE are ok. We had high-ish winds Thurs/Fri, but that was about all. We're due for sun and 40s (F) through Monday and then rain and/or snow after that.
I'm from West Dorset originally (currently living in Cumbria) and snow there is like the proverbial hen's teeth-my folks tell me their road is a sheet of white and no cars have been down it. Had a nice sunny spell in Penrith yesterday and took my trusty XA2 with me on a walk up Beacon Hill. The A66 is still shut though, and a snowplough got stuck near Garrigill (Mountain Rescue had to dig it out).

just getting over a 2 day "cyclone bomb" took out power for 24 hours

Yeah it depends on lot on where you live, we have been fine since yesterday but a friend of mine had to get a JCB in to dig the snow out of his lane, he had a build up about 5 to 6 feet deep and about 30 foot long completely blocking the lane to his house. In an area with no motorways seeing the A31 and the A303 closed off is pretty unusual, only time I have seen that the past 20 years and we had a couple of very cold winters about a decade ago. My cousin got caught on the A31, spent 11 hours trying to get the 20 miles back home.
I went to the lab to pick up my color negs, I can confirm that they do process half-frames. The lab guy was unsure of the length I asked so he left the neg uncut, safely stored in the plastic canister.

O GOOD, I'll be able to fill the earthquake water bottles,while filling sand bags for the mud slides. Who says So. Cal doesn't have 4 seasons, water droughts,heatwaves,earthquakes and mud slides, and to boot we got smog

I used to live in Oban, so I know exactly what you mean-the light can be amazing though if you can put up with the showers and the midges.
