Cooling down a little here. I am off for a couple nights of backpacking in Redwood Nat. Park tomorrow -- taking the 4x5 and six holders of Tech Pan. Also taking one of my boys -- Bryce, just got home from a year in Bolivia and a couple nights out will help readjusting to CA culture and the English language! I'll leave the Rolleicord home this time. Last month's solo trip (for 6 days) in the same place, I took both cameras, all told -- 22 pounds of photo-related stuff. By leaving the Rollei & film at home, and taking six 4x5 holders instead of ten, this trip's camera gear will be around 17 to 18 pounds. If I load up the kid with the food and stove, this will be a walk in the park!

Looking at possible light rain both mornings and general overcast weather. Perfect Redwood weather -- and it will be totally different from Bolivian (Santa Cruz) weather for Bryce! Still might be warm enough for a dip in the creek -- around 70F for the highs.

Today, the high here was 99F and the heat index was 105F. Humidity don't you know. So was yesterday, and they tell us tomorrow and Saturday will be the same. Next week 100F (not heat index) is predicted for several days. I have a very good/old friend in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It is mid-winter there with cold weather coming up from the South like most places below the Equator. My friend was born and grew-up here in Shreveport and I enjoy reminding him of what the weather is like this time of the year in his old home town........Regards!

Hot and dry, record number of days over a 110F and summer is just at the half way mark, well for the desert the half way mark.

Yup. I did more swimming in the lake in May than in June and July combined. Now I can try to make up for lost time. Maybe my bazillion green tomatoes will start to ripen too.

Deepest winter here. Over night temperature has plunged to 8C and it'll only get to 22C in the middle of the day. Brrrr!

Pretty mild and nice! But you're at ~26.5 S. latitude - even closer to the equator than my native Ciudad de Los Angeles (34 N.), which is 27C on a midsummer day today.

My brother is in the thick of the Louisiana flooding. He lives in Denham Springs, and he and his family (wife and two young boys) had to be rescued by boat twice -- once from their own home, then from his brother-in-law's where they watched the water rise in the house until they had to take refuge in the attic. A boat got them late last night. He describes a surreal scene with the boat running into cars and fire hydrants, and getting caught up in chain link fences. They were deposited at a corner of their subdivision where they waited until morning for an army truck -- that took them to a local Wal-Mart of all places. At one point, he said he heard gunshots across the street from the store. They're with his in-laws now, safe and dry, but staying put. I'm not complaining about the heat anymore.

Currently cloudless hot hot spell. The tomatoes are finally ripening, so there's hope I'll be making salsa with ground cherries, ripe tomatoes, cilantro, and peppers. The tomatillos are coming along as well. Tomatillo salsa's good too.

Storm coming our way -- probably late on Wednesday night, Wind and rain...I am building a shed...got the second coat of paint on it, need to cut a piece of 1/4" plex tomorrow for the window, and do some trenching to keep most of the water out (until I get a rain gutter). The shed will hold garden stuff, etc to free up space in the garage for the darkroom-conversion! A digital image of the shed as of this evening:
