Snowed all night here on the mountain (something I had seriously wished for...lol); temperature is currently at 1C, according to the thermometer on my patio. I may set aside the 35s, and bring out a Hasselblad, and wander over to the university to shoot some architecture (I've got 3 A12s loaded with PanF+, at the ready).

The "downside," though, may be the matter of getting off the mountain later in the day if the snow continues (My Beemer has performance rubber - so that's a no - and my Honda has "all seasons" (lol); reading the Globe and Mail up in my study this am, I could see out the window of my second story study that more than a few folks were having issues navigating through the white stuff.

No snow down here...yet. Mainly rain showers and temps in the low 40s.

Sounds like you need to get some snowies for either the Honder or the Bimmer (not sure if you'd want to ride a beemer in the snow, so I'm assuming you're talking about the car BMW, aka a bimmer).

Sunny, blue skies with a few fluffy white clouds and somewhere between 2C and 5C (36F to 41F).

Merry Christmas all!

unusually warm in the UK so far this winter and very wet in Northern Britain. Methinks el nino is having a big effect worldwide this year.
Mind you, its always raining in the lake district, that's why there are so many lakes and people are surprised when it floods and they have built their towns and houses right on the banks of what are essentially spate rivers prone to flooding when it rains a lot.

Here in inland SoCal, it's been cold and very windy. The high temp today was 50F. Was watching the snow blowing off the the ca. 11,000 ft. mountain peaks nearby.

Here in Northern ENgland it is -3C with clear skys, a light wind, but this makes it feel very cold, especially as I am just over 800 feet above sea level. At least the rain has stopped.

Today it is on the cool side, but tomorrow as I start the drive to Colorado the temperatures will get colder.

This was actually last Monday. Where I realized the steep hill was covered in sheet ice (rare for us). 'Tried to turn around, but took unplanned/controlled slide 40'. I knew I was (spiral fastener'd). Car came to rest against a tree & the curb. I walked up to where the slide started to get a shot. Its a really uneasy feeling to think the worst is over & find out otherwise. It may have been against a curb, but I watched it start another 40' slide further down the fortunately empty street. 'Lightly grazed a light pole. I went back & was able to retrieve the car - seemingly undamaged the next day.

wet windy and cool is south devon. Not particularly cold for mid winter. Infact more like typical autumn with lots of rain. Being next to the sea and gulf stream it doesn't usually get very cold here and snow is rareity. Not seeen any this year so far and even morning frosts have been few and far between this year. Just lots of rain.

In California we put snow on the mountains for the skiers and snowboarders and ice in the drinks to chill them. Putting ice and snow on streets and sidewalks is just plain silly. This is a really simple program. Get with the program.

We try the same approach here in Vancouver, but every once in a while the snow eludes our control and descends from the nearby mountains into the city streets. It never stays too long, however, just enough to be a bit of an inconvenience. More of a novelty, really. Ice, though, seems to feel entitled to put in appearances throughout the winter months causing havoc at every turn. Any tips on confining it to skating rinks and beverages?

The Canadians [Canadiens] have an interesting approach to ice and snow on the road. They just get their vehicles up on it and drive. They are more patient with other drivers and leave more space between moving vehicles. So if the rest of you have problems with ice and snow, GET OVER IT!

I thought it was great to see a picture in this thread, which brought home the weather for us visually orientated people. Perhaps more people could respond to this thread with a picture/description rather than just a description in words. I know it could be slightly out of date due to film process/ printing, but so much more meaningful.

Sure, why not? Just be ready for Southern California clear skies every day. It just gets boring every day a clear sky.

But my aim is to please and your aim will help. :whistling:

So Cal. 'Been there, done that. When hwy 39 had motorcycle hillclimbs in the oil fields just sw of Imperial hwy, Whittier blvd was for cruising, Peck rd for racing where a guy lauched 3 motors OUT of his chevelle. Beach boys had acne... 85 was the common speed in I-5 south of San Clemente. 'Surfed river kayaks at Old Man's & Tressels, paddled a sea kayak from Newport to Avalon. Its a fine place w/ lots to do. But this morn, I had 4 does & one fork-horn in my yard. Elk nibbled the tops off some plants. In a nasty snow yr, the whole neighborhood was passing the brandy as we cleared snow from 200 yds of road. Its different, and not for everyone. But as a 4 y.o. in Whittier I kept asking 'Dad, why do we live here'? He, being from Chicago - wouldn't give up those boring, clear-sky days for anything. Certainly horses for courses. Its really satisfying to love where you live.
Now where are those pictures!
