Would we feel the same about an M3 if it was exactly how it is, but made by Chinon?

I have owned and used an M3, M4 and M5. I can say without out a doubt IMHO there is NOTHING special about those Leica cameras. Do I enjoy using them, yes. I also enjoy using my Nikons, Hasselblad's, Rollei's and in the past Minolta's.

I gave away my M3 with a 50mm Summicron. So to me it was worth less than $10 but the joy the recipient gets from it is worth more to me than the market price.

I find it interesting that so many in this thread are provoked by watching the market forces at work. Would they rather see that the minimum price for a Leica was regulated by law? Sounds a bit un-American to me.

Mr Eli is clearly prepared to wait for a seller that will accept his offer, rather than compete by raising his price. I sincerely wish him luck, and good health in the meantime.
