Hello everyone,
My name is J and i want to introduce myself.

Have been lurking here for awhile and decided to speak up. My wife and i live in the Blue Ridge of NE TN.

I have cleaned up my darkroom after almost 20 years of neglect. Back in the mid 1970's i studied photography at U of Fl and like to do mostly B&W landscapes. Early on it was 35mm format but then i started shooting 120 with an old Rolliflex TLR my Father gave me (he bought in in Germany in the 1950's). Later on i started shooting a Deardorff 4x5 Special using the 5x7 back.

My latest endeavors in the darkroom are 5x7 contact prints on 20 year old AZO F3 using EW's amidol recipe. In spite of the age of the materials the results have been pleasing.

It is now time to test some film using PMK pyro for soup.

I look forward to learning from your fine community.
Happy Holidays

J

Good Morning, J,

Welcome back to the darkroom from southwestern Illinois.

Hi J, and welcome. Glad you chose to join in the active conversations. Wish everybody would give that a try.

Thanks also for subscribing. Perhaps when you feel ready for it you can post a photo or two into the APUG Galleries, since your subscription gives you that additional level of access. No rush though.

Cool thing that you held on to your darkroom over those two decades. Can you tell us a bit more about it?

Ken

Welcome back to the dark side, J.

Welcome to APUG

Nothing like a good 5x7 contact print... enjoy perhaps one of life's finest joys and photography's best rewards. Cole Weston taught me to make them back in the 80's and I wish I could still do it... have some real fun, my friend...

Welcome to APUG, J. You sound like a fine addition to the community here.

My darkroom and thank you for the welcome

Thank you all for the welcome.

The darkroom was built in the 90's as a room off the garage. It is 9.5' x 18' with a 10' ceiling. There are two home made sinks 8'x32" and 6.5' x 32" with tile bottoms and epoxy grout. There is a Bessler 23-C with Aristo light source and El-Nikkor 105mm lens. Also there is an Omega F with a T-12 Aristo light source and a Schneider-Kreuznach Componon-S 210 (5.6) lens. The ventilation is active with two Broan fans in the wall above the sinks that exhaust to the outside. There is a good old stereo set up as well; 100 watt Fisher tube amp driving some old but still good Utah speakers.

I have been happy that the old chemistry and paper have held up with no special storage. I haven't tested the old T-max 100 film yet but did put together a large piece of black foam core with 2 18% grey cards mounted on it to determine film speed and development times.

Some images will be forth coming when i get a few scanned.
