For those who asked about the outline of the new book so far.... Here is what I have written down.

Introduction
Review of workshops and emulsions (student and teacher comments and reactions)
A little bit of history
An outline of data presentation
A short summary of making and finishing
Making (4 modern formulas with patent references where needed- more coming)
Finishing
Coating
Appendices

I'm up to about 70 pages with dozens of graphs, charts and photos. Of course this only means it will take me another year to finish it.. I went through 8 revs last time.

Nick and I were talking about your next book. Nick said he'd do the photos and I'm willing to be the technical editor.

Thanks Fred. I'm rolling right along, typing for about 2 - 4 hours per day.

On one of these?::devil:

Well, here I sit with hundreds of pages of notes and a draft outline. My wife hates it when I write. Paper everywhere.

Anyhow, here is the current trial outline. This is subject to change and your input will help.

Outline
1. Review last book with corrections (supplied to all owners of V 1 as well)
2. Outline method of presentation of formulas
3. Theory of finishing
4. Practice of finishing
5. Examples
6. Theory of making
7. Practice of making
8. Examples (5+ so far, planning on 10 or so - hard to get and hard to put in the right format)
9. Theory of coating
10. Practice of coating
11. Examples
12. Exposure and development

Appendices:
A: B&W film design with simple examples
B: Color film design
Reversal
Dye bleach
Chromogenic
Negative
Film
Paper
C: Direct Reversal emulsions
Reversal R
Reversal F
D: Instant

For presentation, I plan on using a spreadsheet format for showing the formula operations and for showing how to make up the solutions. A trial example is attached from my notes.

Comments appreciated.

PE, you mention a little bit of history above. I hope you have included some, in honor of the hard work of those who came before who may not otherwise leave a legacy.

So much was confidential that the only thing I feel confident writing about is my history and that of those around me. Also, I feel reluctant to name names.

Many do not want their names mentioned.

Makes perfect sense. It is the same in my field.

Well, here I am still typing. I've had to revise several times as I was unhappy with the results.

So far, I have a cubic bromide, a t-grain and an ammonia digest using a new method.

I have several sensitizing options and some new bromide emulsions that are easy to make in the home darkroom, but have high speed. Nick and I are working on those and also methods for coating. He sent me examples last week and we are pleased with the results but have to get the contrast down a tad and increase the speed a tad.

Happy New Year.

At present I am too low in speed. Film speed is around 80 but should be around 200. I'll keep working on it.
