That ICE box will disappear if the software thinks that you are scanning Kodachrome. Are you running the latest version of Epsonscan? There should be a check mark. See photo of page from the Epson manual. You can get software and manuals and drivers from Epson site.

Digital ICE takes longer and requires more computing resources. What the difference between ICE and dust removal?
I believe the I in ICE stands for infrared and it does a scan with infrared light which passes through dust. So the software can then compare to the visible light scans and identify dust better than simply looking for little specs optically that contrast with surrounding pixels; i.e. it is physically different than ordinary dust reduction. I know the scanner head does another pass and takes twice as long when I turn it on.When would you use one or the other? What are the features of each?
So does the Dust removal work with Kodachrome and BW film when you can't use ICE?I believe the I in ICE stands for infrared and it does a scan with infrared light which passes through dust. The Epson 330 is a document only scanner.
GLAD I asked. Thanks Matt. I feel like a moron for not spotting this when I downloaded its spec sheet this morning. Cheers!
Alan, I have had major software issues with my Epson V600. Just got them resolved. Please take a few minutes and read through the posts on this thread that I started a couple of days ago: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/epson-v600-scanning-issue.174301/Are you running the latest version of Epsonscan? Because of the special layers, ICE doesn;t work with Kodachrome.
Agreed, ICE does not work with Kodachrome nor is it supported by Epson to work on Kodachrome. Recognize however, there is no "Kodachrome" setting on the Epson....so the scanner does not realize I am scanning Kodachrome, only a transparency. The ICE function does not appear as a choice regardless of what I am scanning, Kodachrome, Ektachrome or Tri-X.The Web instructions for the V600 on Epson's site indicate that Digital Ice is not supported for Kodachrome scanning.
See here - it is in an a note in small type:

Have you selected "Show Texture" in the Configuration menu?Agreed, ICE does not work with Kodachrome nor is it supported by Epson to work on Kodachrome. Matt, please explain. Are you suggesting this is related to ICE?Have you selected "Show Texture" in the Configuration menu?
I think so, but it’s just image processing that looks for specs, so I never use the dust removal in Epsonscan. I spot out dust in Photoshop. So does the Dust removal work with Kodachrome and BW film when you can't use ICE?
Matt, funny, I am not sure how this thread got so sideways? To answer your question, no I did not click on the "show texture" selection. I am a very inexperienced scanner....I have only used default settings when scanning. As a follow up to my earlier post on this thread offering information on scanning slides, another reader asked about scanning Kodachrome using the ICE feature. In response I tried to scan some slides using ICE and the ICE option was not appearing on the screen. I posted that info and here we are......The link I posted above indicates that ICE is not available if you have ticked the "Show Texture" box in the Configuration Menu.
FYI, here is what I have learned about running Epson software with my Mac.Are you running the latest version of Epsonscan? There should be a check mark. See photo of page from the Epson manual. You can get software and manuals and drivers from Epson site.
