Are you running the latest version of Epsonscan? There should be a check mark. See photo of page from the Epson manual. You can get software and manuals and drivers from Epson site.

That ICE box will disappear if the software thinks that you are scanning Kodachrome.

It has been a long time since I regularly used Epson Scan, so others would be better to ask, but generally I would try both and use the one that worked out best for me.

When would you use one or the other? What are the features of each?
I believe the I in ICE stands for infrared and it does a scan with infrared light which passes through dust. So the software can then compare to the visible light scans and identify dust better than simply looking for little specs optically that contrast with surrounding pixels; i.e. it is physically different than ordinary dust reduction. I know the scanner head does another pass and takes twice as long when I turn it on.

So does the Dust removal work with Kodachrome and BW film when you can't use ICE?

The Epson 330 is a document only scanner.

GLAD I asked. Thanks Matt. I feel like a moron for not spotting this when I downloaded its spec sheet this morning. Cheers!

I'm not sure what you have downloaded. V330 is film scanner for 135 film only. I had it, switched to V550 for 120 film.

Alan, I have had major software issues with my Epson V600. Just got them resolved. Please take a few minutes and read through the posts on this thread that I started a couple of days ago: https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/epson-v600-scanning-issue.174301/

Because of the special layers, ICE doesn;t work with Kodachrome.
The Web instructions for the V600 on Epson's site indicate that Digital Ice is not supported for Kodachrome scanning.
See here - it is in an a note in small type:
https://files.support.epson.com/htmldocs/prv6ph/prv6phug/html/projs_3.htm
Agreed, ICE does not work with Kodachrome nor is it supported by Epson to work on Kodachrome. Recognize however, there is no "Kodachrome" setting on the Epson....so the scanner does not realize I am scanning Kodachrome, only a transparency. The ICE function does not appear as a choice regardless of what I am scanning, Kodachrome, Ektachrome or Tri-X.

When you uninstall then reinstall software in Windows Operating Systems the dis space used by the program files usually just changes a flag that shows the disk address as active or free to write to. The newer versions of Windows are supposed to write a new file even if the old one is still intact but the new file can still be corrupted by the old one. The program uninstall does not remove registry entries, just disables them; leaves some folders and files behind and oft times saves the personal settings. The personal settings are kept in Windows System somewhere and not in Program Files. I use Iobit uninstaller to remove any program from my computer. I use Advance System Care to remove junk files and invalid registry entries. I am not affiliated with this company other than a 10 year + satisfied user. These programs have a free and paid version. https://www.iobit.com/en/index.php?s
An alternative is to open your C drive after the uninstall and manually delete any folders or files left behind by the uninstall both in Program Files (64 bit) and Program Files (X86) (32 bit), defragment the hard drive, then reinstall the program.

Have you selected "Show Texture" in the Configuration menu?

Matt, please explain. Are you suggesting this is related to ICE?

The Epson instructions say to click on the "Show Texture" box when "you scan textured documents such as message cards, check this select box to retain texture in the scanned image.". How does this relate to ICE?

The link I posted above indicates that ICE is not available if you have ticked the "Show Texture" box in the Configuration Menu.

Matt, funny, I am not sure how this thread got so sideways? To answer your question, no I did not click on the "show texture" selection. I am a very inexperienced scanner....I have only used default settings when scanning. As a follow up to my earlier post on this thread offering information on scanning slides, another reader asked about scanning Kodachrome using the ICE feature. In response I tried to scan some slides using ICE and the ICE option was not appearing on the screen. I posted that info and here we are......

FYI, here is what I have learned about running Epson software with my Mac.
1) My issues were not unique. There have been problems with the software running on a Mac for years.
2) I ran the patch that someone suggested (Epson Scan Common Updater v1.00 from their website) and my operating issues were solved
3) I realize the scanner ran fine but the digital ICE feature was no longer available
4) I contacted Epson support via email from their website and they advised that ICE is not available after running the patch.
5) They sent me a link to download free Silverfast software which provides a ICE like feature. Here was their response about ICE:
"Thank you for your response.
Please be informed that this updated Epson Scan version does not include Digital ICE. As a solution, we are providing the SilverFast SE Scanner Software free of charge. This software includes iSRD®, an Infrared Dust and Scratch Removal tool that you can use in lieu of Digital ICE."
6) I have downloaded the SilverFast software but need to learn how to use it. It does not look anything like the Epson software so I have to get through the learning curve if I want to scan with iSRD to fix scratches, dust etc.

Being a casual scanner for uploading photos and slides for internet viewing, I doubt I will go through all the effort to learn how to use it properly.
