Might be a problem with using FRS in the UK Andrew. I think the frequencies are the same as used by our emergency services and can cause interference etc..
I'm not knowledgable in this stuff but doing some searches there were a few scare stories of people having them confiscated and being fined when trying to bring them into the country.
Someone else here may know more ??

Might be a problem with using FRS in the UK Andrew...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Radio_ServiceThe Wikipedia says in Europe...

"FRS frequencies are used for fire brigade communications and this sometimes causes problems when FRS equipment is imported from the U.S. and used without awareness of the consequences by members of the public"

Might be better to get PAYGO cellphone sim's if you have tri-band phones?

I'm really sorry to say I'm not going to be able to come down to cornwall now. I am totally gutted to miss this opportunity ... maybe I'll make it over to you instead soon.

hope you all have a great time.

Leon

Huge shame Leon - we have not had a chance to catch up for a while. You'll be sorely missed Guv. Get in touch soon.

Fingers crossed for the flights running OK - at least some are getting through now. Is this affecting you too Ian?

Mark

Leon was going to stay with me for a night or two ....pity

As far as it looks at the moment Mark it's just you and Stoo, and possibly Ian ?

Okay, after a chat with Ike, Thomas on the phone and emails to them and Daniel via APUG, the concensus is to bag the trip. We might make it out of the US on our scheduled time, but we have no way of knowing if the back end of our trip is going to have 'ash' related problems for leaving the UK. Some of us do not have flexibility vaction time wise, or financially to roll the dice and gamble on nothing happening. To that end, I am not comfortable asking people to participate in flying over to what is supposed to be an enjoyable trip to England if all we are worried about it wondering if we can leave or not. It does not promote a stress free vacation and give us the down time we sought with this trip.

So while it pains the US contingent, I am going to have to side with the folks who are not comfortable in flying and postpone the trip to April 2011. Our cottage landlady has allowed us to extend our deposit into the 2011 season. What this volcano will do in a weeks time or even a years time is anyone guess, as historical events have shown us with this thing, it can go on for months.

So I apologize to the UK contingent who planned to meet up with us that we will not be able to make the trip this year.

Sincerely

Andrew Moxom

While it's a great shame that you've all had to make that decision it's also quite understandable so makes sense. It has been a reason in extending my own stay in the UK longer than planned. Hopefully we'll catch up with you next year.

Meanwhile some of the UK contingent will still hopefully meet up this coming weekend. Thanks for letting us know Andrew, no apologies needed.

Ian

Ian, I am not ruling out traveling myself as the flight is still booked!! I could come out to stay with my family and meet up with you guys, but I need to talk it over with my wife first though. Then there is next year aswell!!! A.

Very disappointing

Sorry to hear this news Andrew, but it is perfectly understandable. We all look forward welcoming you to Cornwall whenever you can next make the trip.

Neil.

Its very understandable - but also disappointing too. I will still be going as we've committed to an apartment for a week. I'll PM (the Brits) you guys with my mobile etc. That way we can catch up. That would be great in any case.

Who are the other LF guys Ian - anyone I know?

I'm staying in Marazion and will be in front of the mount Saturday am for the sunrise. If you fancy joining me, that's fine.

Cheers all - Mark

Who are the other LF guys Ian - anyone I know?

They might take offense to being called guys :D

A couple of female LF users, but not certain yet, one lives in Devon and may be around over the weekend, the other lives in Birmingham & may join us Monday.

Will be in touch when you PM with number.

Ian

Very disappointing

Ditto

Such a shame. I am still making the trip and arrive on Sunday night at the Beachfield Hotel in Penzance. I hope to catch up with you all on Monday, after my full English of course.

All the best

Stoo

Just to remind the Brit guys and dolls I shall be in touch on Tuesday night (when I get back from Sussex) to see what you are up to and to hopefully meet up some where. I have Stoo's mobile number so will be giving him a call

Neil.

Andrew.... April 2011..... That sounds interesting. I would be interested in coming along if the location is accessible by public transport and doesn't involve too much walking (I have a mobility disability). I haven't actually met any LF photographers outside either the UK or Sweden.

Weather great, company same. So far all venues pretty good. Cot Valley wonderful. Botallack amazing. Really looking forward to the next three days. Will post some images over the next few days.

Mark

I have just returned from our trip to the Cornish coast. I must say that I have had a great time. We visited some wonderful new locations (to me), and the weather was nothing short of superb, with sunshine and great light each day. As always, great company, good laugh's, and great conversation, and hopefully I might have a good negative or two to come out of the trip. All in all, a very successful get together.

It was such a shame that Andrew, Thomas, Ike and Daniel could not be with us, but I will look forward to April 2011 when we all get together.

Best

Stoo

And the weather will be equally amazing in 2011, right? Will you take care of that, Stoo?

I'm very sorry that I'm not in Cornwall right now, but I guess one has to live with the decisions we make.

Personally, I'm getting a trip to San Francisco in June out of this, so I'm not feeling sorry for myself one bit. Point Reyes National Sea Shore, and Muir Woods. Should be a good time.

See you all next year! And I'm really looking forward to it.

- Thomas

Despite the small turnout (4 of us including myself) we had a great time and it was really good to meet up again with Stoo, Mark and Ian. Pleased the weather was kinder for you this time !
Had some great light on the north coast in the evenings and hopefully some have got results from it (jet trails in the skies were sometimes a bit of a problem though  )

Really enjoyed looking at others work and also the photographic chit chat – especially with Ian til the early hours !

Look forward to doing it again – hopefully with the US crowd next time.

Thanks Bill, it was great meeting up with everyone again, well worth the trip to the UK :D

Some great photography, wonderful light, first batches of negatives look excellent. Look forward to another meet up hopefully with the US contingent !!!
