What do you use?...Please excuse the fact that this in the Color forums. I was not entirely sure where it should go.

I shoot Kodak across the board. I would be curious to hear respondents' replies as to the printability not scanability of the Kodak or Fuji C-41 films. I much prefer printing the Kodak Portra films than the Fuji Pro 160 C & S.

I am an Ilford B&W guy for 80% of my shooting then Fuji E-6 for 15% then the last 5% is C-41 Kodak or Fuji.

For B&W, Kodak, occasionally Ilford for things that are uniquely theirs, like SFX and special order sheet film.
For color, it's all Kodak all the time.

kodak across the board so far. well, except for acros in 4x5 and 120, cause its sooooooooooo cheap . and sooooooooooooooooo goooooooooooooood!!! I

I've been experimenting with the Fuji Velvia 50, and have been rating it at 40 sometimes, so far with great results. the slight overexposure helps, due to my scanning of the chromes after processing.

normally my regular films are TMX 100, TMY-2 400, and acros when I need a bit more contrast than the t-max gives normally. and because its cheap, the acros is getting the most use while i'm in school, and on a pretty serious budget.

I use Ilford for mono (flying the flag), equal Fuji and Kodak for E6, more Fuji for C-41.

I voted that I shoot more Fuji Black and White. Neopan 400 & 1600 make up about 80-90% of my shooting.

Used Ilford exclusively for B&W, until T-Max appeared.
And as for colour, never liked any of the other brands.

This poll seems to be shaking down the way I hear it from many people.

1. Kodak leads in C-41
2. Fuji leads in E-6
3. B&W seems to be a rough tie between Ilford and Kodak, but the dust is still in the air.

This is a good poll with lots of potential as a "market survey".

For 35mm I shoot Fuji C-41 and Ilford B&W. For 120 I shoot Kodak C-41 and Kodak B&W.

I like fuji 160s for neg, never tried the kodak slides so it's fuji there too, and pan-f+ and fp-4+ for b&w.


I really have nothing against kodak I just prefer the other products. I should probably try plus x as well, eh?

It is interesting how in this thread, Fuji really wins the E-6 buissness, but in the thread that just covers E-6, they are pretty equal.

In this particular online community; yes.

The question is whether or not this online community is accurately representative of all film consumers worldwide.

I have a feeling that most film shooters don't even know this Website exists, and don't go online for photographic education, research, or discussion.

Additionally, the ones who do are probably of a much different level of obsession with photography than those who do not. IMO, this skews the useful results more than anything. Face it: Most people aren't like we are.

This is akin to a Gallup Poll. We don't reach everyone, but there is a reasonable statistical element of "truth" to what is going on. Of course, with so few participating in the poll, this makes the poll less meaninful. I wish more people would take advantage of it.

Likewise just voted,

Shoot Kodak E-6 in both 120 and 220 (100 VS, and when I can find it G and GX)

Shoot Kodak T-Max100 (35mm & 120), TXP320 (220 - only one still standing in 220), and Plus-X (35mm & 120).

Never really liked the Fuji stuff, once or twice a year I'll go for Ilford Pan F Plus and/or FP4 Plus.

So, it Kodak for me....
(Saving my frozen stash of Agfa APX25 and 100 (now down to only about 4-5 rolls each of 35mm & 120), for that super special, once in a lifetime event, whatever that may be, who knows... )

My film preferences are as follows:

Kodak Tri-x 400, Plus X 125 and Ilford HP5 400 and FP4 125. Love both brands, can sub either emulsion if the other is not available and get great results. I have dabbled with Fomapan 200, it's nice and I have not got a handle on Fuji Neopan Acros 100 yet. I print on Kentmere and Ilford brand papers again, comfortable with either or.

Color,
I prefer Fuji E-6 in particular Provia 100, I really like how it looks. I messed around with some Kodak E-6 but never quite liked it the same as Fuji.

For C-41, it's pretty much an even tie between Kodak with Ektar 100 and Fuji, again love them both.
