Reminds me of the joke:

An old lady goes to the butcher. “I would like please a flank steak,” she says.

The butcher says, “That’s $2.29 a pound.”

“Get out of here with your $2.29,” the old lady says. “Down the block by Oppenheimer’s it’s $1.69 a pound.”

The butcher says, “So go buy it at Oppenheimer's.”

She says, “He hasn’t got any.”

The butcher says, “Lady, when we're out of flank steak, we sell it for only a buck and a half.”

The butthurt in this thread is hilarious - Fuji is gouging because I don't want to pay what they're asking!!! You think by whining Fuji is going to go "oh, we'll lower the price now?" If Fuji doesn't think making film is worth their time and money for what they're getting from it, prices are going up, or they're just axing it.

It's not apathy, we just have to deal with it. Shoot less, shoot something else, shoot digital - you keep touting how much you like color slide film because you find it the best medium for imaging - you really don't have much choice

Other options to deal with it can include budget tighter or raise your own prices and marketing to cover the cost. [Or find a way to generate income from your photography if you're not already]

Prices on film aren't going to go down without production and overhead costs dropping. And that's rather unlikely to happen in a company like Fuji without some major restructuring...

The prices are currently trending @ $50 for 3, and $80 for 5. Are you kidding me?

Doesn't surprise me, here in New Zealand it cost nearly $40US per roll for 35mm format.

To be honest, I’m surprised any color materials are made seeing not many pros are buying 15 pro-packs at a time anymore ( when i was assisting back in the day lots film backs were being loaded with hundreds of rolls of chrome film being paid for by magazines, and corporate clients with $$$ ) and most people who "do analog” are artists, students and hobbyists with limited resources. While some still notice the beauty of a projected chrome or optical set print most of the world isn’t that particular. As mentioned I have shown digi and optical prints side by side made professionally and die-hard film or die people ( who now shoot digital btw ) couldn't tell the difference. YOU might be able to tell the difference / can notice the difference ( because you care ) but most people can't an't don't care .. i mean most people don't even look at anything but screens now why should they care ?
Regard the price of a print... yes they are expensive ( custom prints have always been expensive ) and like expensive film one should be happy that option is still available...
Personally I’m kind of miffed that J Lane isn’t making ortho roll film yet, and that the 14 inch 3inch diameter burritos I used to buy for 6$ are now 14$. they used to feed me for 2 meals ...

You can reduce the overall cost by doing five things:
  1. Learn to develop color slide film. I learned this when I was in high school and was successful the first time

In some countries like mine we can't get slide film chemistry and B&H etc won't ship it outside the USA due to ORM-D.

I just shot my last roll of slides today. I have 11 rolls of 120 and 1 roll of 35mm. It will be for a while, I would occasionally shoot so I won't eliminate it. Thing thou is that I have collected my film up so I send to the USA from New Zealand cos it cost $20US per E6 here developed and no mounting for 35mm that has been long gone for 10yrs here. When they did have it they charged us 30c USD per slide mounted.
