It is still readily available here over the pond and for as little as $3 (Equivalent) for 36 exp and there does not appear to be any shortages. Is this one of Donald Trump's items of fake news?

Back in 1962 when I started with Photography a roll of the original Kodachrome (10 ISO) was about £1.50 I was earning around £4 - 5 PER WEEK. Over the years it I started to earn more until I retired in 2000. My pension is not as great as some who were able to work on but still have a reasonable income, but if the cost of film had kept pace with my pay grade I would be paying around £95 per 36 exposure roll, so in real terms is still a relatively cheap hobby.

We have to face the fact that FUJI is a company that is deeply involved with digital imaging and film to them is possibly looked upon as a very small part of their business and probably not really worth while increasing the volume of production. As for reducing the price which is probably very close to being a 'loss leader' for get it. That may sound hard but that is as the say - the real world.

Stop making things up. Fuji *never* announced that they would stop manufacturing film. That is purely made up and a lie. Just stop it.

Fuji are a business. the goal of a business is to survive, to keep going. No business can do this without offering products or services that people want to buy...and selling them at a profit. Fuji isn't making much at all form film....they're a huge company encompassing far more than photographic film. They pulled out of the audio cassette market years ago, because nobody was buying. Do you really want them to stop making film? Sure, boycott them...because then they will pull out.

Kodak has axed some prodcuts. Foma axed Fomapan 800. Other companies have disappeared completely, Ferrania (in it's previous guise), Konica, Efke, Forte, Agfa-Gaevaert...many others gone never to come back. Appreciate what we have. Prices are bound to be higher because the total market is much smaller. There has been a tangible rise in colour film sales in 2019 but it's still nothing like 1999.

Honestly the entitlement here is sickening at times.

oh I know they make some excellent film which isn't intended for consumer use or use in cameras....that said, Rollei Retro 400S is well known to be Agfa AviPhot 200. But the old Agfa-Gevaert company as we knew it which made Vista, Scala, APX, Agfacolor HDC and Optima, Agfa Chrome and CT Precisa....that's gone and those films aren't coming back. in the same way that Konica-Minolta technically still exists but Centuria isn't coming back...nor is Konica 50ISO colour film or their amazint 3200 ISO colour neg film.

Other companies have left the room or reduced their portfolio. Eg...where's Kodak Gold 100? Where's Kodak Porta VC and NC variants? Where's Royal Gold 1000 and Ektachrome 400? They're gone, they're missed, and the remaining products such as Portra 400, Gold 200, Ektar and Ektachrome 100 are expensive....but the bile and fury which is directed at Fuji doesn't usually get directed at Kodak.

FujiFilm is a huge company with over 70,000 employees working on chemicals, cosmetics, stem cell research, medical imaging, digital imaging, flat panel displays, office copiers...photographic film for the consumer - even Instax - is a drop in their ocean.

Bottom line; you can find a way to shoot if you want.

The fact that we have as many choices as we currently do is incredible to me. Wasn't that long ago that I was really worried there would only be the scraps and bones of a defunct industry to pick-over, but for now we have a stable supply.

Film has always been a luxury item; it comes after food, shelter and clothing.

Some people will happily economize on the above to have the ability to shoot film.

@Kino indeed. Film may be comparatively more expensive than it was 20 years ago, but I am told it was much more expensive compared to wages and living costs in the 1950s. We have no right to cheap film. Having watched the market be nigh on destroyed and so many films go by the wayside, I am also quite happy that we have what we still do with the promise of a few more (Acros II, hopefully Ferrania). All these products are made and sold in far smaller quantities than in the 80s and 90s...orders of magnitude smaller.

I know there has been a big increase in sales of C41 film for sure. And that both Kodak and Fuji are struggling to keep up (see posts in the Color Plus thread in this forum). But numbers are still far lower than 20 years ago. The fact that we still have the range of films that we do is quite something.

I should have thought that Fuji re-introducing Acros and doing some film photography promotion would help people realise that they're not malevolently trying to destroy their film business....and are not actually evil...just trying to focus on products that they believe have a medium to long term future.

I actually spend a bit less per year on buying new clothes to keep myself in film. I'm not much of a clothes man so film has a priority. I would surely shoot more film if I had a pay rise but I shoot what I can....developing B&W myself helps as does discovering a local lab which does C41 at a third of the price of the lab I had been using. If you want it enough, buy film and shoot film or it will go....just like many other once ubiquitous products.

Do you check the personal alcohol usage and "woman ministering" of the executive board of all the film companies? How about the camera makers? And the chemistry? Count me out.

funny, how today when there is praised earned for a company, then its, well thats what their business is, and it gets passed by. but when people dont like a business decision a comany makes, then its all out war and attacking from upset, Ill call it like I see it, entitled people, who think that the only reason company A is in business is to provide what those people like, need and want. And the company should do it at a price that they want it at.

if you dont like fuji, great dont buy their film. but you (whoever you are and you know who you are) only label yourselves when you rant nonstop like a spoiled child. we got mickey mouse or whatever his name was finally kicked out of here. looks like we have another volunteer. take you bitch session to the soap box forum. you made your points, so let the rest of us have a peaceful discussion about the thread topic. please, do us a favor and shoot digital. your crying will fit in well with the digital boards out there.

I like and still shoot slide film. yes its more expensive, but i did buy a bunch+ rolls last year before the last price hike, right after fuji gave us notice of a price increase.

Yes, fool, I realized what I was saying. I was working until recently at Rico and I went to Japan to get an advanced training course and there was an appointment to meet the Chairman for five minutes to welcome us. But he didn't show up until 12 noon and when we asked some Arab employees working there, they told us that he was going to have a drink with his close friend (Fuji chairman), and they had red nights together.

You just have a comfortable life and you have no problem if the prices are rising,
But people like me with an average level of monthly income are suffering.

My biggest mistake is in not staying away from this thoroughly ruined hobby after they stop producing the 2 best films ever made, Kodachrome 64 and Pan-X!

Learning to design and coat my own reversal plates sounds like a rather cool project, and I'm less likely to have to care about company's prices, as I could find other suppliers for things as needed...

The only films made today that I care for are ColorPlus (optically printed/Fuji Frontier scans), Ektar and Provia. Provia is too expensive now, and ColorPlus is too difficult to get consistently good results from, which leaves Ektar, which also commands a dear price even @ $8 a roll once developing and scanning costs are added.
