I haven't bought any Fujichrome for years because I have a large stock of Fuj 35mmi transparency film in my film freezer and if it runs out before I expire I can always shoot colour negative film.

Fuji isn't getting another cent of my money until they offer what I want at a reasonable price!

If I were you, I would also send a letter the Fujifilm CEO. Who knows? He might be interested to hear from his valuable customers.

Wouldn't you want to send a letter to the reseller? BandH, Freestyle photo, etc. They are the ones setting the price. Moreover, I just looked to see what the price of 135 100F provia singles are over at Freestyle. The products lists "out of stock" with a price of $17.49. They don't have any 5roll packs listed in 135. Therefore, it looks like the high prices are due to the fact that demand is high (although this doesn't fully square with B&H having expired product). In any event, why are you, OP, mad at Fuji when Freestyle, B&H and others set the retail prices?

You can now add Kodak Ektar to the list, which is now approaching Portra in price!

Edit: Only Adorama is listing Ektar @ a reasonable $8.

At least I can still purchase ColorPlus at a reasonable price (for now). Didn't Fuji axe C200?

Fuji is a naturally evil company.
Fuji is a savage pragmatic company.
* Despicableness, misdemeanor and greed are inherent meanings of the Fuji Foundation,
which originally stole (Agfa-ORWO) patents through the then Italian intermediary (Ferrerania), taking advantage of the prevailing communist law at the time that there was no such thing as a patent and that patents should be on the public domain. Anyone who believes in communist ideology - Ferranía has benefited from this law, obtained patents (Agfa-ORWO) and produced the film (3M), and leaked patents to Fuji and the latter developed those formats to be registered in her name - and Suddenly arose from nowhere a photographic company produces a color film.

Everyone should boycott Fuji products, that evil enterprise greed.

Boycotting film companies is bad for all of us. We do not need these tirades.

Sure. Continue to support companies that blatantly rip people off!

They are not ripping you off. They are doing what they need to continue to supply us with consistent quality products. You may be surprised to learn that they do not have an agenda to attack or destroy you. Do you have any understanding of the complexities involved with producing consistent quality film products?

I will continue to support companies that provide products I wish to buy, like Kodak products, like Fuji products, like Ilford, etc. When resellers are involved, then I will support the retailers that provide me with the best price and best service. It turns out that I buy from Freestyle, Adorama, and BandH.

When Acme Foto company, starts making high quality film stocks that compete directly with Kodak, Fuji, Ilford, etc., then I will buy their products. Oh, wait, there probably won't ever be Acme Foto Co. (maybe Ferrania?). I believe I will keep buying film from the major producers, including 'Evil' :outlaw: Fuji, because they produce products that I want to use at a price I am willing to pay.

It is not a ripoff when I enter a bargain of my own free will and the other party satisfies its obligations.

Of course! But if they can't offer it at a reasonable price that people can afford, then its best if they don't offer it to begin with!

This really sounds like a personal problem, not and industry wide problem. Others has suggested alternatives.

How long do you think that they will be able to justify keeping the film plants operating if only the rich can afford it?

How long do you expect them to bother making it if no one is buying it? They're a business, not a charity.

If accessibility to film products is really an issue to you, then maybe consider campaigning to establish programs within something like a National Arts Program to work out deals that will subsidize the production and distribution of film and related products to ensure the art form remains viable?

It has been said many times throughout the history of film photography that it is a rich man's hobby. Always has been.

As a young man, I bet I didn't shoot 10 rolls of slide film the first 10 years I started shooting film; I simply could not afford it.

So, I dropped back, punted and reoriented myself to less expensive B&W and learned to appreciate what I could afford.

For me, slide film is a rare treat even now when I can afford it much more easily.

I will do my photography by hook or crook; color or not.

You should ask them.

The costs per shot are lower for me compared to professional colour negative film. If I want high quality with colour negative film, I need high quality prints and / or high quality scans. Both is expensive.

This is an excellent point. I shoot stereo transparencies in 120 and I develop and mount my own film. Including film, developing and mounting costs, the price per image works out to about $3 per stereo shot (two 6x6 frames) or so. I consider that to be great value for a one-of-a-kind work of art in its final presentation medium. There simply doesn't exist any other display medium with the resolution of slide film. Arguably the best presentation medium currently available for $3? It's a bargain!

Enjoy slide film while you still can! Once it is gone, it won't be coming back.

In the latter part of the 1970s I sold a lot of processing included 36 exposure Kodachrome for $12 CDN.
Gas for my car was about 24 cents per litre than.
Gas for my car now is about 6 times that now.

If the pricing is hurting, you could be additionally selective in what you shoot. The keeper rate will probably go up as well. I was over my daughters house. I handed my 35mm camera to my wife. She started to shoot like crazy. I held her up reminding her it was not a digital camera but film. Slow down. Do I really need three angles of the same shot?

Aren't you sick of it yet?
Not particularly.
The minimum wage in my Province was $3.00 per hour in 1979. So if someone was making that wage, they would have had to work for 4 hours to buy that film.
The minimum wage here now is $13.85 per hour.
