I participate in the various print exchanges organised on this forum, but note that only a few others from these fair isles do so as well, which I think is a pity. I find I get a lot of enjoyment out of the process, but I can appreciate that there are many reasons for not taking part, such as stress, cost, or time. There will be those that may consider their work unsuitable, because of content or standard, which is a shame, because by seeing the work at others at first hand we all benefit by cross-exchange of ideas, and inspiration.

I’m thinking of a periodic blind print exchange, such as that organised so ably by Art, where we each send one print to another member, as selected by the organiser.

I wonder if a variation on this theme by way of a simple UK only monthly exchange is of sufficient interest to make it worthwhile organising; something I’m prepared to do if there is.

I’m thinking that paper size should be fixed at 10x8, so that both material and postage costs are minimised, in order to invite maximum involvement.

Think it over, and reply here if it is of interest. We will see how many want to be involved in, say a month, and take it from there. Any ideas or input will be welcome.

At agreed intervals, I’ve suggested monthly, but it could be longer, you will be given the name and address of another participant to sent a print to. You in turn will receive a print from someone else in the group.

I'm interested. I'm a complete newbie as far as printing goes, made my first ever print less than a week ago.

I think I could manage one print a month!

By the way, congratulations Dave on getting your Whitby Abbey print in the Best of Friends calendar (and a medal as well).

Thanks Les, It was quite a suprise. I think the medal may be a chocolate one covered in tinfoil.

Yes I am interested in a print exchange - when would it be?

Thanks,

Sadly for you no one has managed to invent medals made out of cheescake

I would like to take part but I don't think my enlarging skills are up to scratch yet. I would not want to send anyone something substandard.

If you should decide to expand the area to cover the Right Side of the Atlantic, I'd like to participate too.

I might even have some negatives shot in the UK that I might print...

I’m in the same boat Andy, but fortunately for me most people are too polite to tell me. So pitch in and have a go.

My idea was to keep this as simple as possible, and one simplifying factor is to avoid the need for a trip to the post office for a special stamp. We can talk about it next week at Ilford's. I also ment to add that I did not want to setup an exchange group that competes with Art's.

Thanks Dave. I think I may be a bit disillusioned at the moment. I've been trying all week, and failing, to get prints from my IR negs that look as good as those neg scans I posted.

Count me in, but I might have problems coming up with one decent print every month - might have to repeat the same image for a few months  ...

Andy: too late mate: we have seen your APUG Gallery images - we know you can do it  .

The point of these exchanges as I see it is to see what others are doing in a spirit of camaraderie - "X is a better printer than Y" does not come in to it. I know the Group Exchange has encouraged me to get better (whether I have done so is a moot point of course!)...

Cheers, Bob.

Cheers, Bob.

How I envy you if you get one good print a month
I'd be up for it as long as no one laughs too much at my prints .

Great idea Dave, please count me in.
It should be fun, and so much better than looking at web pic's, just
printed the first months entry so I am ready to go.

The reason I stopped taking part in the main print exchanges was the cost of sending 3 or 4 international packages each time, so I would like this to remain as a uk only exchange - no reason why there cant be a mainland europe exchange too though Ole ....

I'd like to participate, but might not be able to contribute every month. Would this mess up your arrangements, Dave?

Dave?

Dave! Put the bloody cheesecake down for a minute, will you?!
