just looked at this site, Barry - looks good, but it's not near Keswick ... is it?

Hello Leon,

No it's some way from Keswick. However, there are not so many places open in February. I will continue to investigate other site's.

Barry.

I have spoken to the camp site in Keswick, they are open from 5th Feb.
Only Camping & Caravanning Club members can book early, but you do not have to be a member to stay there. Non-members can only book from 1st Jan 2005. More details of the site are on the Camping & Caravanning Club website.

If those interested would let me know, I will take this further.

Regards

Barry

Anyone considering camping in Cumbria in February has my deepest admiration! There is a good chance of snow (on the Fells for sure, if not in the valleys) - unless the rain washes it away...

The few times I have been there, (earliest was mid March: v. cold, snow on fell tops) I rented a cottage from these people: http://www.cumbrian-cottages.co.uk/. Cottages sleeping from 2 to 10+ are readily available, even at short notice . Hiring at least one large cottage would provide a central meeting place.

Cheers,

A little bit of snow wont hurt ... plenty of thermals and hot water bottles - no probs.

i have only just learned of this regional forum and am interested in joining the activities.
I am amazed that a meet is planned for this venue in February apart from the cold I doubt if many will be able to complete the journey to get there.
At this time of the year the roads can be almost impassable.
For information I am mainly a 35mm monochrome worker living in Staffordshire and a member of the Stafford Photographic Society

Should add to the interest!

Perhaps we could make it a six-monthly event, maybe a junkies' barbeque in the second half of the year (The Shoot-Up and Meat!).

OK I'll bring my own carrots!

here we are then ... any thoughts on where, when, how long for and to do what?

Anywhwere with some standing stones or coastal areas would suit my requirements, even if I didnt take any pictures, but I am open to negotiations of course

this is exciting.
Given that we have had an influx of newcomers to the forum I thought it apposite to point them at this thread. I don’t know the position with hotel accommodation, but I imagine there is some tent space left.

Hello Dave,

We cannot book at the suggested campsite until the New Year, but I'd be surprised if we had any difficulties finding enough space in February.

Well we are not going to be there to see you all in February. My wife has business issues that will run into the time we had planned for our journey through Europe. So we have re-scheduled for April. Hopefully while there we will get a chance to meet with as many as time allows. Enjoy your get together and report.

Gorn a bit quiet around here, so I thought I'd pop in with a couple of useful links....

This lady, is out and about most days in the Lake District. Click on the "Recent Pictures" link to see more - should give anyone who has not been there before some idea of the local scenary. Also gives you some idea of the local climate for us softies living in the south...

In addition to the Cumbrian Cottages site I listed earlier, I also used these people once before (albeit in Wales).

Work commitments permitting, I'll be spending the week there (far too far to drive from London just for a weekend - especially if the roads are bad). Never been that early in the year before - could be interesting....

Cheers, Bob.

P.S. my avatar is a shot of the southern end of Buttermere - can't really see much - too small...

Still hoping to be there! I've been incredibly hectic getting through the busy portrait season, but will turn my full attention to the workshops in the next week or so. Not to get too far off topic, I'm in need of a local who might be able to help me identify venues and work on logistics. I'm still hoping the time frame will work out for me to join you all. I'm such a poor landscape shooter that I'd love to learn from the UK APUG Masters.

Cheryl, I hope that you can make it, we are looking forward to meeting you.

Bob, I used to drive from Maidstone in Kent to the lakes and back in a weekend, I'm not sure that, some 30 years later, I would like to do it now. That's why we are making it a long weekend, driving there on the Friday morning and leaving on the Monday.
As far as I know there is only one weather condition in the lakes; wet. It can be warm wet, sunny wet, cold wet, and frozen wet. I jest?

I'm definitely still on and am driving up from Kent for the weekend. I already have one maybe for a passenger, but am happy to take another if anyone else wants to go but doesnt want to drive - of course sharing the diesel costs would be an extra benefit too.

I'm back in too! My redundancy was cancelled at the eleventh hour (actually 23:59, apparently I am worth employing after all...!) and I will be joining y'all, even if the accomodation's gone and I have to drive up and down each time!

Cheryl, if you don't show I'll have to eat this Belgian chocolate myself. You wouldn't want me to get even fatter, would you?!
