Actually, I think the only way to avoid scammers on ebay is to screen who bids on your item. Since there is no way to block bidders or viewers I think the only way to do this is make the price high and accept offers. That way you can screen out the dirtbags trying to get your item for free.

There is a difference between making your price high, and asking 80-100 times the going rate.
The scammer is this seller. But… the scam is out in the open, no surprises so it’s not really a scam.

I bet this guy is going through a divorce and is being told he has to sell his stuff and give half to the ex. He puts the price so high so no takers, and he gets to keep his stuff.

People can ask whatever they want for their stuff, nobody has to buy it.

Ah, how true love can go so wrong. Sex and its consequences knocks humanity's problems with drink and drugs into a "cocked hat" as they say.

I nearly wrote "coked" hat but corrected it in time before hitting reply 😄

Here is a Polish gent selling a Kodak Retina II for $3000. It even has some corrosion thrown in on the bargain.

To be fair the Type 122 is the rarest of the Retinas (apart possibly to the iiiC’s made in the 1970s). The Type 122 is so rare it even has a book written about it - https://www.blurb.com/b/10763593-journal-of-the-hsrc-kodak-retina-ii-nr-122. It’s probably not $3k rare though…

(The special iiiCs are the Type 028/N - there’s a couple on eBay at the moment at around £2.4K)

What is the difference between true love and herpes? Herpes last longer.

I buy and sell on eBay I can probably explain this. Ebay makes it incredibly difficult to cancel a listing once its up. I had to Google it and of course I was able to figure it out but it's not something easily accessible from the seller dashboard

Not difficult, but well hidden. When you go to your active listings and click on the down carat by "Sell Similar", you'll see an option to end listing.

Yeah, isn't it sometimes easier just to raise the price to a point where you know nobody will buy it rather than mess around with canceling? I know Amazon sellers have to do that sometimes.

That's not the case w this camera. If you make an offer, a reasonable one, he will refuse it.

but maybe that's because he no longer has the item or no longer want to sell it...and so, would like to cancel the listing but hasn't figured out how to.

Still, it seems veeerry strange.

He keeps renewing the listing.

There's got to be something significant about the number 2005. Maybe he's honoring a lost loved one?

Or maybe a fortune teller told him "Put an N80 on eBay for $2,005. If someone buys it, you've found your soulmate."

What is worse, a thread about a $2000 Nikon N80 or a thread about a $10 Leica....? If the threads were merged, would they cancel each other out? Maybe if the thread about Nikon the poor-man's Leica could be added as a catalyst.
