I currently have a gitzo ball head, with a hex plate. I would like to know other recomendations on tripod heads for my camera. Thanks.

I like using a three way head like the Bogen/Manfretto 3047. What I'd really like is the one sold by Gitzo that has a larger plate. I've also used a Majestic but it's a bit heavy to put over your shoulder for more than a few minutes.

The wista 4x5 is really light weight you dont need a whole lot to support it. I use an older bogen 3030 pan tilt head for mine anything bigger is not required for what I do, hiking and some architectural work. A 3047 is nice but adds significant weight.

I use Manfrotto 410 and 405 geared heads for my 4x5/5x7 and 8x10 and find it's far easier and more efficient to use than a ball head.

Just my 2 cents worth!

Cheers

I dare say your Linhof ball head would be perfectly adequate. You don't say what tripod you are using – it might have some bearing on what is a suitable alternative...

I've been using a Bogen 3028 on a Berlebach 2042 wood pod with my Wista DX for a few years now. Works great. Dean

My wife has a 3047 for her Wista. a bit heavy but it takes a beating in the field and back of the truck with no problems.
