Given my age of 68, I've got to wonder where you came up with 'cheap' / 'good price'? In my twenties, 100 ft cost $8. - David Lyga
 
As an accountant, I already have, Ratty: from 1975 prices have risen about four times. That would make the $8 film now $32 for 100 ft. - David Lyga

for 50+ years kodak raised their prices X% / year ... it has nothing to do with inflation but more to do with
kodak raising their prices because people still buy it. i looked at the page and 50sheets of tri x 4x5 film
cost 108$ .. i used to buy it at about 50$ / 100 sheets .. its a money thing.. foma + ilford have films
that are equally as delicious ( at least my cameras have said so, belched and sent complemented the chefs ) for less ... scratch.
 
Although more expensive, the 100ft Trix may be easier to obtain. I recall in 1974 I had to get my mom to drive me to the photo store to get the bulk film, but they did not always have it. Sometimes having to check 2 or three stores. 1974 Modern Photography only had a few advertisers listing the bulk rolls (though maybe other sellers had it and did not put it in their ads).
Today, however, an internet search immediately brings up, Adorama, B&H, FreeStyle, Ultrafineonline, Amazon, Uniquephoto and others all ready to ship to you via electronic currency exchange.
I had the same experience trying to find B&W 120 film for my Yashica in the 1970s. Now I have a photo store that I drive by every day on the way to work that stocks the 5-roll pro-packs of TMY 120.
 
Freestyle has bulk rolls for the same and have had them since the New Year. Looks the pricing of bulk from Kodak has gotten more in line with what the competition (Ilford) is offering (though still higher).

Good grief man, don't be such a downer! Kodak film at a substantially lower price than it has been recently, is good news. Be happy.

And did you have to walk 10 miles uphill in both directions to go buy it?:whistling:
I'm afraid a simple 4x multiplier since 1975 doesn't make sense.
For some commodities that were and are sold and used in high volumes (milk and gasoline?) maybe, but film??? And particularly bulk film????
 
I see the same store offers 100ft of Ilford Delta 100 for $69 !
 
In my profession wages have gone up at least 10X compared to 1975, so $8 then is $80 now. Right in line with the selling price.

Lets take another example, a mid sized family car such as a Ford Granada was $3700 in 1975. A middle of the range Ford Taurus lists now for ~$37,000, also 10X the 1975 price. I don't know where you get the 4x multiplier, everything I looked at was roughly 10X more expensive now.
 
For a while, it seemed that Kodak bulk film was no cheaper than the same film in 36 exp rolls (over $100 for a 100 ft roll IIRC). I can only assume it was related to an internal cost issue at Kodak. At $75 for 100 ft, it's more in line with "traditional" bulk loading economies.
 
$100 is not a lot of money in today's world. My camera collection is many many thousands of dollars. Film costs are nothing in comparison.
 
Just take a seat in a time machine and roll back in the year 2005.
There we saw the pricing of 1990 - 1995
with films. With cameras we got always brand new stuff for 1/3 - 1/2 price.
Exceptions : 6 and 8MP digital cameras..

PS : Camera dealers of this time were affraid with analogue stuff.
So as this stuff were radioactive contamined - so it seemed to me.

100$ is exactly that what my boss give me more I noticed yesterday.
But that isn't all he will give me...:D:laugh: So you are right i'll tell him soon : "100 bucks is just nothing today chief...."

Craig you wouldn't state seriously that these Ford models have been cars ?
A Rabbit Gti had the same price but was much faster.....:whistling:

OK, B&H makes no sense-- a roll of 36 exp. tri-x is $5.49, or $110 for 20 rolls.

You get 20 rolls of 36-exp out of 100 feet of film, which costs $140 in bulk.

Meanwhile a 100 foot roll of hp5-plus from Ilford is less than $70.
