The issue is not if someone looked for information, but if there was official information. There was not.

IDK i've been reading about the problem since November 2015, maybe even before that.
Where was it that was the "official place" that EK/KA disseminated the information about this suspect film?
On their website? Through dealers? Through blogs of fanboys/fangirls? FessBouk? Through angry people's diatribes?

There was no official statement (I know of) until September last year and even that was only published on a obscure Youtube channel.

I never saw anything official from Kodak either. I saw a YouTube video on this topic but I believe the guy said his information came from Ilford.

There was a source here that said Kodak had published it on their Facebook account. Another said that they had alerted dealers.

The John Sexton report of this in his newsletter in May 2016 was probably the closest thing to an "official" public announcement: http://www.johnsexton.com/newsletter05-2016.html
That's my impression as well. With hindsight I would hope that KA would have communicated better. What it decided to do was may be the best that was available to it but they needed to make affected users feel that KA was more on their side than it gave the impression of. It just seemed "too arm's length to me.
