The very first thing I did any time I bought a new camera or lens the first thing I did was strip off that little gold sticker. Sometimes I think I might be the only one who did/does that.

I thought they were like the tags on mattresses and pillows... illegal to remove!

I hope you realize that removing the gold sticker will greatly devalue the camera.:D

Roger

What is with that, anyway? I have some cameras that are over 30 years old that still have the sticker on them. Why do people leave them on?

Ahhh, the infamous oval gold JCII stickers. I'd always peel them off when I used to buy equipment, but now I leave them alone. Funny how annoyances turn to nostalgia sometimes.

Do you mean the "Passed" sticker ?

For years (I was a teenager then) I believed it indicated a better quality :D :whistling:

Then I removed all of them, when I grew older (and may be wiser)

Possibly illegal to sell new without them but once you own it, you can do what you like with it.

I always remove them - they look horrible.

Very funny, this thread.

I figure it's a good indicator of a camera's "privileged" lifestyle. I have a number of my dad's lenses with the sticker still attached.

Um... My Holga has TWO. How much better is that?

Removed sticker mungy remaining adhesive's enemy is a product called 'goo gone'.

Goo Gone is a citrus de-greaser cut with a glycerine.

Far better is a product called Citra Solv. This stuff dies wonders on old foam seals.

What's there to pass on a Holga?

"Sir, we checked and the lens has some diffraction issues, there's light leaks around the back, the focus is incorrect, and the shutter seems to be the same no matter which setting...."
"Pass!"

It's sort of like the video cameras (and new digicams) which spend their whole life with colorful stickers that say 10x zoom, stabilized,

I hate leaving stickers on things and I detest seeing clear(ish) protective film left on things such as display windows. And don't get me started on people who buy a new car and leave the plastic covering on the seats.

Someone at work has a friend who was boasting about the blue anodised aluminium logo on his new phone until he peeled off the blue film to reveal its true aluminium colour.

What's the story with those stickers? Were they a global industry agreement?

It is the industry's way of being allowed to charge an extra $3.27 (plus tax) on your purchase :whistling:

LOL

I usually leave them on and don't bother with them. I can see how it can help resale value, if the sticker is pristine or has little handling use or fading, the lens or body probably was little used or taken care of well.

This is too much:laugh::laugh:
The lower the quality of the camera or lens the harder is to remove the sticker. at least this is going on in my collection:smile:
