I'm putting this challenge on a number of forums.... but plan to post my photos on my blog so I'm not posting them three or four times.

Maybe a flickr site would work?

Rob -- I really like this idea and would like to try it with the best intentions. Already I have a plan to use a different camera each month/roll of film -- it will help me get to know (and exercise!) my lesser-used cameras while giving me a reasonable photographic goal to keep up with. I don't know how often I could post results (probably once a month at best) or even if I would want to post every shot taken, but I will be doing it. Thanks for suggesting this.

I am tempted as I have been for a while now (I have been following Polyglots Pic Per day for most of the time since he started it), but I would have to concede that it would have to be mixed film/digital. I also think that I would be better at 7 a week as opposed to 1 a day, but where do you draw the line?

OK, I'm not going to commit, but I may do it anyway!

On another (local) forum, I think this guy has upped the ante:

2010 in 2010: I will take a total of 2,010 images in 2010 that will be posted to a special album/catalog. (that’s an average of about 39 a week) These will not be shots to take a shot, but ones actually worthy of posting.

Project 365 Up: Alot of people do a Project 365, aka a “Photo-A-Day” project, and I will do one also, ...

"ones actually worthy of posting" :D

I already did this in 2009 and plan to do it again in 2010, but "meaningful" is not in my list of possibilities. I shoot my family mostly and yep, sometimes even a cat or dog sleeping.

For those that plan on taking part.
Once you get started you might choose to post your photos. If you want to great, if not that's fine also.
I plan to post to my blog but have also started a Flickr.com group for anyone who needs a place to post their photos.

The group is....
http://www.flickr.com/groups/1273915@N25/

It's called Rob's Photo a Day Challenge 2010.

One of my goals this year is to get more competent with my camera work. I think I will give it a try. Nearly every morning when I drive home from work I see something I'd like to photograph but don't have a camera with. I will start carrying a camera! I will not be able to post every day but I think that I can shoot one meaningful picture a day. I think this is a great challenge!

Don't think I could manage this. I've had a hard enough time keeping up with my current one year challenge. It would be fine over the summer, but with work and school responsibilities it would become a chore. Perhaps that's part of it, but I like to enjoy my hobby. Good luck to all who attempt it. May you make 365 interesting photos, but only one per day!

Not enough daylight for this kid.

On winter days when I work at my day job, I am at work more than one hour before the sun comes up and sometimes I can't leave work until dusk.:surprised:

As I said on another forum, I'm in for this year. The good old AE1-P is loaded with a new battery (it's fourth in 27 years, not bad !) and a fresh roll of HP5...

I guess I'm in -- just posted today's photo in the standard gallery here (until I can figure out flickering, blogging, or whatever).

I know Rob probably had in mind 'finished' works, but I'll do work-in-progress submissions, including quite a few experimental shots or techniques that I ordinarily keep to myself. Basically, this will be a record of what I'm doing each day throughout the year.

I need to go roll some short rolls! I am just shooting up the roll that is in there for todays, mostly cause I want to see if they turned out! Low light pic of my oldest playing in a Jazz combo with some old fiends from her 1st college. They hadn't played together for years and were having some fun! I think I'll post them on my Webshots. I haven't used it for years but still pay for it so I might as well use it! Maybe I'll try a blog page instead though. We'll see.

It's a very interesting challenge, but ........... why not 365 photos per day? Most seriously, I was thinking recover on this year all the lost time without use my cameras. I have on my mind some projects about photography and I take this as one more. Nice idea. I try.

I've wavered, but I'm in

First, I was keen to do this.

Then, I had all sorts of doubts - the sort mentioned by mopar_guy above.

Then I was keen again.

Then today the rains and cold and wind came, and I wondered whether it made sense.

Then the sun sort of came out for a few minutes, and I rushed out, and found something reasonably interesting, so I shot a few.

So I'm in, but I may need a flash equipped Nikonos to complete the year:confused:

I'll try to set up something on my little used flickr site, and link back here from time to time.

Oh by the way, even if the shooting schedule is honoured, the posting schedule will be erratic - especially if I include the Kodachrome I intend to shoot this year.

Well, if Matt can have doubts, then so can I. Today I Shot a couple of Kodachromes on the way home. I will give this a try, but I really don't think that I will make a Photo every day this year. Look on the bright side, you don't know what you are capable of until you try. Also I will use up more film and other consumables. I also need to be more organized with my "sparetime" photography so this will force me to take better notes.

I set up a blogspot account for my photos. I've never done that before but thought it would be fun for this challenge. I do need to make a lot of short rolls though cause I'm wandering around taking pictures of nothing just to finish off this roll cause I want to see if my pics turned out!!! I have another bulk roll of film in the freezer so I will use it for that. I will only post pics once a week or so though because I won't be able to spend everyday in the darkroom. Not that I wouldn't want to!!! No pictures on there yet!

And they have to be real photos...

...not snaps of your cat sleeping on the chair.

I'd do it if there was a prize and if the "real photos" requirement was retracted. There is no way to definitively define or enforce the reality of a photograph in your use of the term...nor is there any point in doing so.

I kind of like the idea that the "rules" of this exercise are a little bit loose and open to some interpretation. It looks to me that the whole point of this is to force some discipline and routine for the individuals who choose to participate. The only way that I can make this work, is through self-discipline. The "prize" is that I may improve in the technical side of photography and become better at making photographs.

I am using this challenge to improve my photography. Some days I will need to make myself go out to shoot something. Usually when I start though, I continue and have lots of fun! It'll give me lots of choices of negatives to print for exchanges also!

The beauty of having no prize, is that there are no penalties. And, while I do subscribe to what I see as the general intent of the "rules" here, "creating something significant each day"; my dogs are on the list of potential subjects.

I also have every intent of doing 1-a-day but I'd settle for 7-a-week.

If people are going to accept this challenge, I think that it should be a point of honor that they make a post announcing that they are bowing out of the project, after they miss a day. It should be interesting to watch the field narrow as time goes by.

I was kind of joking about the prize....

....but not about the "real" thingy.

I'd be happy to make that commitment if you are willing to put up a nice used complete Sinar F2 8x10 with a pretty 300mm petzval from Jim Galli and an appropriate Packard shutter installed nicely, 10 film holders, and 365 sheets of fresh FP-4, all as a prize to each-and-every finisher.

Charles, I don't plan on missing a day, but having a convert-or-die rule on a fun project like this that lacks a prize is simply setting most people up to fail.

I doubt I'm alone in the fact that I'm doing this for my entertainment and edification not yours.

If I miss a day I still intend to finish the project with 365 worthwhile shots from 2010, that will be a success.
