Shouldn't we limit the "signature" to avoid posts like this:

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Hi,
You think a signature like mine is too big?

There are options to limit the number of lines allowed. I would think 4-5 lines max would be enough?

Make it six and we have a deal!

(BTW, when you effect the new rules, will the old signatures be cut off or deleted? Then give people time to "rescue" and shorten their text before you do make the changs)

Dunno if this has been reported by others, but when I bring up the list of posts since my last visit each page of threads seems to have a random number of threads listed on it. For example I went away for a few days and there were o ver 1200 new posts. I click on the little red flag to list them, and it brings up 9 pages of threads with new posts. You'd think each page except for the last would have an equal number of threads listed (like 10 per page), but in this case I had pages with 10, 11, 12, 14, and 5 threads listed and that's not counting the abbreiviated 9th and final page. This isn't really "a problem", its just very odd. I also will often click on the last page of listings and find nothing listed there, which is even odder.

I can't seem to reproduce it, sounds very odd. Perhaps it would be showing posts but you have ignored a particular forum or thread. Are you ignoring many forums or threads? I also recently moved the soap box forum to a new social group, had you been participating in the soap box? Thanks

I ignore some forums including the soap box, but I don't know how many. I'm not ignoring any threads although I should.

This has been going on since the switch to the new system, but seems to have gotten more noticeable with more variation in the number of threads shown per page.

I figured it out while I was in the shower. Each page has 25 new posts in the threads that it lists, but some threads have more new posts than others so each page has a different number of threads.

This is an odd way for the software to work. Makes more sense to have each page show X threads with Y new posts, with X being constant and Y being the variable. But maybe there's a method to the programmer's madness.

Thanks for putting the SoapBox into a group. Now if you could do the same for the Lounge we could get rid of all the nonsense. Or at least contain it in a separate room somewhere down the hall.

Yeh, I got a problem with this forum. It's shit, every second post I make is being reported to the point I have had be ridiculously careful and formal in my responses. Some people here need to lighten up and take a bloody hike.

We get maybe 1-3 reported posts per day, if the majority of those are your posts then maybe you need to take it down a notch. On average I probably remove 10 posts per week out of 3,500+ posts (usually off topic or spam).

I rarely post here but every time I do there is always some trivial, petty problem. Surely people have better things to do than winge like children in a playground. Nuff said.

I post here a lot and don't see any more whining here than anywhere else on the net. Most people are polite and considerate, a small minority aren't.

On Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 in Firefox:
Something really, really annoying that comes up...
When scrolling down the page through APUG, large black static squares appear, progressively covering more and more and "cutting" off the rest of content. These squares are random in positioning and quite large, obscuring just about everything. A restart sometimes clears this. I am unsure if this is a Firefox or platform (Android?) problem, but I had never experienced something like this in the old APUG forum environment. The glitch is not replicated on an Android smartphone running the same version of Firefox.

Can you try with Chrome? Curious if it is browser specific.

Sean, hello,
On the basis of probability it seems to be a problem with Firefox (47.0) running on Android 5.0.x. I do have Chrome and the glitch is not able to be replicated in that environment (curiously Chrome can't get my APUG log-in credentials correct, and as a result I am treated as an alien and have to create an account -- woot!? Screenshot of the big black beasts accumulating before Firefox (usually) collapses in a heap...

Postscript...
That black mosaic interference on the page... I have lodged a suspected bug report with Mozilla for Firefox 47.0 (7th June) on Android 5.0.x, with a screenshot. Of particular note is that this problem exists only with the APUG forum; it does not and cannot be replicated on the myriad other sites I jump to and fro, so... a coding problem that does not go down well with FF?? Finally got my log-in sorted out in Chrome, yay, and it works faster to boot. Hmmm. :wondering:

Yeah strange. There are a few patches I need to update the forum codes with so that might help, but I prefer Chrome as my mobile browser.

Instead of photos attached to posts there are "crossed" placeholders now.

For example here:
(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

(I'm using the Opera browser.)

That person is linking to an image on their own website that is not working, it wouldn't be a problem if they attached the image. As far as I can tell it's an issue only with their link.
