I've been playing with B&W for about 4 years now and have been pleased with my progress in exposure, development and printing. After a visit with Donald last week, I started playing with amidol again. His prints have a black which I had never been able to achieve with PWT. The amidol I had been using with azo was too granular and would not go into suspension properly, so I stopped using it after several botched attempts. I started up again with some Formulary amidol, much finer and working better. A friend has ordered some prints of him with his two loves.

The shot posted is a crop from an 8x10 print. I had gone from Ilford's RC paper to azo, fiber, then to J&C PWT. I had been using dektol as my developer of choice and was happy...until I saw Donald's prints and started using amidol on a limited basis again. All I can say is thanks Donald. tim

Obligatory lousy scan, software and post (yep, same old everything in the digital world)

Very nice, Tim. I've just begun using PWT with amidol, too, and find it a very interesting combination. I was surprised to find that you can make variations with this paper based on the time of development - unlike some modern papers. I find a print developed for four minutes is quite different from one developed for two minutes, and early experiments seem to show it's a different variation than can be made with the filters.

Don's a nice guy who has been very helpful to me, too.

Thanks Tim and John, It certainly made my day to hear these nice things from you. It is my pleasure, I assure you, to have come to know both of you.

Thanks Donald,
I have only used the Forte graded so maybe this is paper before and have had problems geting black blacks with Ilford Multigrade developer. So now I only use it with Lith. It is tempting to try some Amidol with them.

The payment for the reference print is on the way btw.

Thanks Matti, The reference print is printed on this paper and developed in Amidol. You can see for yourself if this is something that you want.

Obviously the subject of the picture hasn't learned Donalds trick of riding on the back of the bike behind the babe, instead of in front.

He's a damn fool.
