Colorado must be different than around here. (South Puget sound)
Hardly any of the second hand stores or Value Village or Goodwill stores have much, if any old plastic cameras. And, if they do they want much more than $.99

I've heard that living was costly around Puget Sound -- and thanks for the proof. Up here in the Rockies, we have GOODWILL OUTLETS. That's the place where the countless GOODWILL stores send all the stuff they couldn't sell. It's one step before the landfill. They sell the stuff at $0.99¢ per pound. I once picked up a like new Pentax Motor Drive for $1.50 and sold it for $60 on EBAY. Then there was the Gossen large format ground glass meter for $2 that I sold for $200. I could go on......... There are always plenty of old, unwanted, discarded, film cameras -- including an occasional 126 -- which can cost under $0.50¢, based on weight.

And there are always yard sales galore (they might be too lower-class for Puget Sound), Freecycle, Craigslist, etc.

126 "Instamatics" -- they are not all KODAK -- are easy to find, and basically free. Al least outside of Puget Sound.

Don't blame me if you can't find them.

FYI goodwill recommends to wear gloves when you visit their outlet stores. Because you are literally sifting through bins of trash.

If you really want a 126, just treat yourself and pay the $5 or $10 and avoid the tetanus shot.

Hope it pleases! Feeling a little silly that I sold my LC-W without considering these sorts of alternative possibilities, but no matter, I still own a 6x4.5 Ikonta.

The only 126 camera currently on my wish list is the Nizo 1000, because I think it looks sort of cool.

I enjoy visiting thrift stores from time to time, but my actual number of scores and semi-scores is low, and if I find 1 decent buy a year, I consider that a good year. I think most of the better stuff never gets to the thrift stores at all, but rather, gets sold to camera specialists, or maybe via eBay.

That NIZO 1000 is an interesting beast. I'm not familiar with it. The only 126 I would consider is the Minolta Autopak 700 -- which is basically a very good 35mm rangefinder camera that happens to take 126 film. It was very expensive compared to all the other 126 cameras of the time, so it was a complete flop.

As to thrift stores, I've found that they vary widely from store to store. Some never have anything I'm interested in, while others seem to always have something to catch my eye. At my favorite GOODWILL, in the last few years, I found a Nikon COOLPIX 5600 digital for $3, and a COMPLETE Minolta A2 digital OUTFIT with EVERYTHING for $10. Both in MINT condition. Both keepers.

Thank you for confirming that cheap cameras are in thrift stores all the time. That has always been my experience as well, but some people seem to have a hard time believing that reality.

And amid the junk, I sometimes find treasures. Some I'm kept, and the others I've sold, but you're right, most are not what you are looking for -- or are in horrible condition.

But even with broken/junk cameras, some people use the optics -- or other parts -- for various reasons, such as making soft-focus (portrait or landscape) lenses for their cameras. Here's one example:

Most of the photo stuff that I find at thrift stores are undistinguished digital compacts, and equally unremarkable 3rd party SLR lenses; basically the stuff that the dealers won't buy. Most of my better buys do not come from unwitting sellers, but from knowledgeable sources who simply want to clear away slower-moving merchandise.

But I'm not sure what this has to do with half-frame 35 mm photography. The number of half-frame 35 mm cameras that I've found in thrift stores to date: 1. And it was pretty nice too! But price-wise it was much cheaper just to buy on eBay instead, something like $35 versus 100.

I really like these shots, Huss. I like the low contrast look, I helps blend the images into a whole to me. They would look great as large panels I think.

Thanks! Yeah the low contrast was due to a very low contrast, grey, cloudy day! Also the pics are a bit overexposed because I did not adjust the ISO for the inevitable double exposures. But I think they turned out well! I wanted to shoot a roll to make sure the camera worked ok.
