I had the same opinion about them, but they're actually pretty good if you burp them. Very little to no leaking actually.

Of course, figure 8 ensures no leaking at all, so it's a no brainer in your case.

Yes, I lift the edge of the lid a bit, while pressing at the center.

If you are skilled with your Tupperware technique, the current Paterson Super System 4 tanks rarely leak
Thumb on the center pushing down, fingers prying the edge up slightly, until the tank "exhales" a "pfft".

Thanks again, Andrew, for video/tip. I did a roll this morning with a number of frames of blank sky looking for any variations in density. Smooth, no evidence of uneven development! And, no chemicals on the hands!

My Dad had an Elkay bakelite tank he used for 30+ years, I still have it. Used the Kodak Darkroom Dataguide technique showed sliding tank to and fro on a countertop. Worked perfectly!

In general my cycles are two slow twisted inversions and two taps...
Could it be because I need low contrast for my condenser enlarger?

We are using HP5 so we give continuous for first 30 sec. then 5 figure-8's every minute (about 5sec). Pretty much following Ilford's recommendations. Now if I'm using 510-Pyro, or Pyrocat-HD, I don't agitate nearly as much

Yep, burping Tupperware is a skill my dear departed mother taught me. As long as there's not a temperature difference a "burped" Paterson should not leak.



Also burping Tupperware prevents pathological organisms from spoiling your party. Not to be confused with pathological Organisms which is another thing entirely.

And there's only the single T in Paterson.
