You haven't said why you don't like this film, Ben. Perhaps your lab is at fault?
I use Snaps Photo Services in Bournemouth for development and scanning to low resolution. And I don't do any manipulation. Don't even know how to!
So, the images you see above are as straight as they come.
I like this film, but it isn't for everything! And I can't complain about the price in Poundland!

I dislike the very warm colour balance, I don't want to reveal the name of the lab I use but it's a top quality pro lab not a mini lab. who do first class work . I would rather pay the full price for Kodak or Fuji pro films than waste my efforts , time and processing costs on this film.

Fair enough!
I like that warm colours as I was used to Kodak EBX Extra Colour!
My lab isn't a mini lab in the common sense of that label.

The vista negs come from my mini lab with a very strong colour cast (unlike Fuji or Kodak c41) but one of the scanner drivers post buttons says 'auto white balance' which converts the scan information to normal every time.

Without that I can easily see why Ben might be upset.

With the white balance it still has a little character but is not unpleasant.

I need to try a gelee print before and after or look at sliders to see what happens. I don't do gelee prints normally.

woooa that is dearer than in the UK!
Must be the only photo product dearer, normally you pay x0.60 our price.

Yeah, it seems a little odd. Kodak and Fuji seem less expensive on your side and Ilford is less expensive on ours. Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?

Not really, Kodak Tri-x is $4.49 for you. That is £2.65 for us. Unfortunately, our UK shops sell it for £4.62 and that's US $7.80 for you.

yea but 1.79$ is 1.06£

so unless it is for x36 exp it is dearer by 6%?

and 4.62£ for Trix is as cheap as we can get it?
HP5+ is 4.68£... so it not Kodak!

That's Silverprint price. AG sells it a bit cheaper at £4.58.

Yes but there is a nice street market next to silver print, I've been known to burn a brick I just bought... before I got back on bus or tube.

If I'm in silver print I normally restock the raw chems.

Party's over this time around. Haven't done any in-depth searches recently but I think the best price at this point is at Best Deal Supply for $1.49 per roll of 24.

I have just "arrived" at this thread but spotted your post. Is "that crap" a reference to Fuji 200 film? I had always thought that it was Fuji Superia which was the stuff Sainsbury used to sell in its Fuji counter before it stopped having such counters. I found it OK

Is Fujicolour 200 not the same stuff as Fuji Superia 200? It might be that you regard Fuji Superia 200 as crap which is fine but in case I ever see this stuff again I want to avoid crap if indeed it doesn't measure up to what I used to buy from Sainsbury

It is definitely not crap!

Is it Portra? No, but perfectly respectable color and grain. Although I've only shot a few rolls, I suspect that, like many Fuji films, it does not tolerate underexposure well.

I have to agree. None of the Fujicolor 200 I have used was crap. But, everyone has different tastes and obviously Benjiboy's preferences do not include this film.

I am retired and I am certainly not wealthy in any stretch of the imagination (though I have traveled to other parts of the world where that could certainly be disputed, with good reason.) However, whenever I come across a good, consumer-brand film that I like, I sit up and take notice. In this case the results have been very good for me. It is a quality product that gives consistent results from roll to roll, so I know what I am getting when I take one shot, or an entire series of them. For the price that is darned good in my book.

Of course, like Benjiboy, YMMV. I would never recommend anyone buying 100 rolls of this film until they have tested it to be sure it fits their expectations.

I like it. I buy it and I use it. It's not my favorite, that would be Kodak gold 200, but it's pretty good.

We will all be sad if it disappears because that would just about be the end of all color films.

I enjoy working with Kodak Gold 200 as well, but right now I can't find it anywhere near the price of Fujicolor 200. Based on what I can tell Kodak, or Kodak Alaris as the case may be, is doing everything they can to price themselves out of what is left of the consumer market. A small mark up is ok but not what they are charging at this time. But perhaps this is intentional, don't know.

It is nice film but at $1.49 the retailer is getting it at production cost or less. They must have coated way too much and are trying to recover what they can.

Kodak Alaris horse traded still film hoping to make a profit.

When Agfa went broke there was 100 ISO mono cheap for years that hurt Ilfords and Kodaks sales.

Their sales volume did not increase with a kaput competitor it decreased step wise.

Adox CHS 100 type I was similar but only lasted a few months at my retailer the local college students bought it up. I was buying it a brick (10 off) a week should have bought 100.

These are the good times, since 06 I've bought expired film in camera shops and pharmacies... can't last.

I definitely agree that these prices can't last. The total volume of film sold every year has dropped dramatically as digital as grown. Eventually prices will have to climb, probably quite a bit higher than what they are now. I am not looking forward to it.

As I am buying and enjoying the Fujicolor film at these prices I am also buying and stockpiling Kodak Ektar and Portra.
