Some years ago, when I had an interest in economics, I decided that money - whether gold/silver/other metal, pieces of paper, or big rocks on Easter Island - is best thought of as a storage mechanism for human labor.
One of the few 'good' things that the Nazis did was to salvage the devastated German hyperinflation currency by basing their new currency on 'hours of common labor' instead of (non-existent) intrinsic value. That is an idea that merits attention and would help to remove the 'fiat' pejorative from money (or, should I posit "money"?).
I am not an economist but, certainly, that's better to think about than that bit of a coin known as 'bitcoin', whose value is determined solely by hype (and hyperbole). - David Lyga
Having watched a lot of Star Trek, I think I can see where this part of the discussion may lead, lol.
:munch:
True, plus there's perceived value, like diamonds for example, which aren't really that rare, and other previous rare earth stones like ruby's and emeralds are way more "valuable" except that the huge diamond owners hold the diamonds "at bay" to increase their value and convince happy couples that they won't be happy unless they have one...
It's all a crock...
Color is way more fun than clear anyway
Keep trying to convince my GF of this... It hasn't worked yet.
I kind of wish Tea were still a valuable trade resource, not only was it fun to carry in bricks around china, but you could make some nice tea too, AND grow your own... The good old days when money literally used to grow on trees... HAH!
My then-fiance was adamant she didn't like diamonds, wanted just a blue topaz. Got a very nice ring with a blue topaz. It is, if I do say so, beautiful.
It's not unusual for B&H fresh film to be the same or less than Freestyle short date or past day.
Freestyle fresh TMX is $89/100', short date is on sale for $79. B&H has fresh for $77.
I love Freestyle, but they're not really competitive on film and paper, at least not the brands you can get elsewhere. Their house brand stuff is a bargain if you like Foma (and Adox for the MCP papers) though. I still buy some from them to support them and to consolidate shipping when I'm buying other stuff (like any of the myriad chemicals B&H can't/won't ship.)
I would expect the price of Big Macs to be going up fast in Argentina...
Stone, do you mind if I ask a question?
Do you EVER log off of APUG? - David Lyga
Oh, I see. There really IS quite a difference in generational mindsets. I see computers as a tool and not, as so many younger do, as a part of my biology.
Thank you Stone. You have educated me. I do hope that you get enough sleep. But heaven forbid, if you fell into a swimming pool and ruined your 'computer' would your withdrawal symptoms be manageable? - David Lyga
their ilford ULF prices were the best for roll film
What???
What are you questioning?
