TechPan - how to develop without microdol?

I developed a roll (1994 expiration) the other day in RLC (6 minutes) and was quite pleased with the results, except that I think I over agitated it as evidenced in the sky. No visible grain, sure looked better than Tmax100 to my eye. I have a good bit of Technidol, but not as much as I have of TP.

RLC? Agitation pattern? Print or negative scan? If it's a print, what paper and grade was a good match?

It is nice to Rollie Low Contrast able to handle TP so well, the short development time makes it hard to do minimal agitation. The sky does show some over agitation, but controllable in printing.

What was your agitation style and how frequent?

This was scanned on an Epson v700. The agitation method was as Kodak recommends in this bulletin, but I did not fill the tank as instructed (it had been a while since I read the bulletin). I loaded the reel then poured in chemical in the light. So maybe it wasn't my agitation, but my sequencing.

Stock. The salt will extend the developing time somewhat, but not nearly as much as bromide. You can dilute it about as you would Microdol.

Salt? With TechPan? The grain is already
invisible.

Correct. Microdol is a low ph D-23 with likely
salt added. Just as well use, as I've suggested
in an earlier post this thread, D-23 at a 1:7.
Very little solvent action at that dilution.
Use it one-shot. I doubt the OP had
replenishment in mind. Dan

This looks like something that'll take up some time to get used to, so I'll delay until the summer to experiment with it. Now I can barely shoot and develop the films I know.

I didn't say I would use it. I would not use Microdol either. As you say, developing TechPan in a "fine grain" developer is like carrying coal to New Castle... or West Virginia.

Y'know, I have never cared much for the film, but i have to say that seeing your result makes it tempting. But, I'd sure find a way to slow it down. Longer development, gentle agitation - so much more reliable.

Morry's Technidol arrived! Only took 2 months by surface mail.
I note the baggies make enough for 250ml and my 16mm tank only needs 100-125ml. Would the other half freeze to keep?
Must remember to check the pH when made up, too.
