Strong Lith Developer

I bought this:

to place tempering baths on while developing E6. They come in various sizes, and would be handy to keep paper trays warm, seems to me.

I've seen those, and they are good for small adjustments, say if you're at 60 degree room temperature and want to heat it to 70. But I also hear that they are not good if you have to heat up chemistry a lot. So it works for some situations, and not for others.

A friend of mine is using electrically heated stainless steel food trays, which put out a little bit more heat. Great for lith. When I have the funds I'm going to try one of those.

Right, you wouldn't want to try to heat chemistry from room temp to working temp using the pig pads, but they're very effective at maintaining the temperature of tempering baths. I heat distilled water in the microwave for the E6 chems and tap water for the tempering baths, and maintain the temps of both with the pad. I imagine it would work as well for keeping lith printing trays at or close to the proper temp.

How time flies...
I didn't have a darkroom set up for a year...wow.
Anyway, thanks to this thread I knew what I did last ;-)
I have modified it just a little.
The strong lith chems do a good job of taming fomatone pretty well but you can still get into the pinks.
So what I did was add a little concentrated LPD.
This is the formula I'm currently playing with 30ml Arista A, 25ml Arista B, 120ml water, 2ml [LPD]
Here's an example of 3X4ish print f5.6 for 10s. Film was Delta 100 at 50, developed in rollo pyro for 7.5mins

This is a timely restart of this thread - I just got some Arista lith in the mail today from Freestyle (usually I go with Moersch). I like the fact that you found a way to tame the colours in Foma without toning. LPD is not an option for me in Japan, but I might experiment with other developers to see if they have the same effect. I'm surprise that you got so many midtones at such a strong dilution -- how long was the development?

I haven't done any lith printing in a while, but I did purchase that stainless steel food tray warmer, and it works really well for keeping the chemistry at reasonable temperature.

After this school semester ends I'm going to dive in and make lith prints. I have SO much old Kodak, Agfa, Luminos and Forte paper that is hopelessly fogged for regular printing, but brilliant for lith.

Interesting about adding some normal print developer. I've been taught to very thoroughly wash my print tray to get rid of all normal print developer before I put lith developer in it...

I haven't played too much with it but it definitely starts to shift toward olive-ish the more lpd I added. I did 5ml. The lpd was made over a year ago.... I think development was maybe 1.5minutes. Still have a snatch point. I also can't say what the water temp was. It was on the warm side ;-) more playing to do. I wish I had a better Enlarger... The cadet II does the job but it's a rickety thing.
