And that’s why you need your film Leica M to be able to shoot at 3-4fps easily.

Which means, basically, that you can shoot a frame and then another one 1/3 of a second later, NOT at the end of the second. Huge difference.

Chess is a Sport. Street photography is a Sport.

Like hunting with a machine gun, isn't it? What a sport!

Leica-smeica. Real men shoot their 4x5 at 3-4fps.

3-4fps means the camera is always ready. No slouchiness.

Looking at that Magnum Contact Sheet book this is what pros do. 35 so so rejects and one good keeper.

That's because they don't show you the contact sheets with no keepers on them.

And yet, somehow, Weejee used to get good stuff with a Speed Graphic and conventional film holders...

No.

3-4 fps means the camera is always ready, even for that one single Shot.

Bam!

Or BAM BAM BAM!

Or BAM BAM!

Or even BAM BAM BAM BAM!

It’s just a POWERHOUSE constantly ready. No lazy bs. No Weejee hypotheticals. Just BAM 36 times with no ballerina dance in between shots, or a Capoeira set of movements for every 4x5 shots.

One shot per second is plenty. Don't despair, just practice more.

😁

I shoot the street with my SLRs, Minolta 9, 5.5 FPS, 9000 about 7 but think a bit faster with fresh batteries, for real work a camera I don't have the Canon EOS IV with sports grip 11FPS or F5 at 10.

Good grief, why not just lug a cine camera -- shoot half frame at 24 fps. Some of those have wicked fast lenses...

Haven't you seen that video of HCB tiptoeing around taking a picture here and there and then pirouetting in a different direction to see what else is going on. He didn't need 3-4fps. Granted, he probably had a lot of contact sheets with no keepers, but at least it looked like some skill was involved.

All the best street photographers shot at 3-4 fps. Such as Vivian Maier, Gary Winogrand, HCB, William Klein, Diane Arbus etc etc

NB is just stating the obvious, no need to get all fired up.

“The best”... right. Get out of that mainstream train will’ya.

Like, The best movie is a hollywood movie, eh?

You need a movie camera and then you can shoot a 24 frames per second.

Hey I can do that - 35 contact sheets in the trash and 1 keeper on the 36th. sheet.

Along with Prof. Strunk's admonition to "Simplify, simplify, simplify" when writing there should be the admonition to "Edit, edit, edit" when photographing.

That's the way sports photography is done today - set the camera to take a movie instead of stills and just follow the action with a 1200mm f4.0.

P.S.: Vivian Mayer, or anyone else, shooting a Rollie TLR at 4fps - this I got to see...

Not for those of us who can predict the decisive moment. We only need one shot to capture the best moment.
