One shot per second is plenty. Don't despair, just practice more.

I shoot the street with my SLRs, Minolta 9, 5.5 FPS, 9000 about 7 but think a bit faster with fresh batteries, for real work a camera I don't have the Canon EOS IV with sports grip 11FPS or F5 at 10.

Good grief, why not just lug a cine camera -- shoot half frame at 24 fps. Some of those have wicked fast lenses...

Haven't you seen that video of HCB tiptoeing around taking a picture here and there and then pirouetting in a different direction to see what else is going on. He didn't need 3-4fps. Granted, he probably had a lot of contact sheets with no keepers, but at least it looked like some skill was involved.

You need a movie camera and then you can shoot a 24 frames per second.

Hey I can do that - 35 contact sheets in the trash and 1 keeper on the 36th. sheet.

Along with Prof. Strunk's admonition to "Simplify, simplify, simplify" when writing there should be the admonition to "Edit, edit, edit" when photographing.
