I should not think the Mobberley NIMBYs would object to those manufacturing facilities being redeveloped. That proposed "redevelopment" would actually shrink HARMAN's footprint, and no increase in employee headcount would accompany it....The local residents were opposed to the scale of the housing and the impact it would have on the local amenities along with the increase in traffic. There was not (as far as I'm aware) any significant objection to the manufacturing facilities being redeveloped.
The fantasy of executing only the manufacturing portion of this proposal seems like an ideal situation for neighbors who want to see no new housing units, since their existing residential property values would likely increase with less industrial 'scenery' nearby. However, without profit from new housing development, HARMAN's landlord would have no reason to undertake the project.
