I'm really pleased with the way this ELW turned out. This was my first time working on one. This one is for me. It had its problems. Foam, dirty finder., bad motor gear, and other odd things. Not to mention dings and outright dents all over the sheet metal. Now you would never know it was dented up like that. and with no repainting. If you ever took the top off an EL, you are greeted with an electronic nightmare that is SO fragile. In all that work I only pulled loose one wire. And close examination gave reason to believe it was cold-soldered anyway. I took the cheapo Sunbeam alkalines out of my MD3 and now that they've spent a while in my old NiCad charger, they're back up to 1.52V, and this AW1 is a lot more lively. I never did have a 6V silver 544 for the body, so I just put in 4 357's and a little wad of tin foil. The shutter seems accurate. Just finished foaming up the door grooves. Tomorrow I'll slice a mirror bumper foam and then go out and shoot.

I'll tell you what though, a Nikkormat ELW winder is no bolt of lightning in its winding speed.
I think the idea behind a winder was not to speed up transport but just to enable to keep ones digit on the release button.
For speeding up transport a motor drive should be used. (I'm not familiar with Nikon gear, but I geuss what I have said is universal.)
