I shot a roll of it at box speed and the whole roll had blue mottling (something like underexposure artifacts). Someday I will try another at a lower EI, maybe that will help.

Suggestions would be Ektar, which is very saturated and certainly distinctive (beware of underexposure or heavy shade, which will come out bluish), or Portra 800 which is also saturated and relatively fine grain for an 800 speed film (but unfortunately your most expensive option).

I’ve found that Wolfen NC 400 and 500 look ‘best’ shot at half their box speed, EI 200 and 250.

I'd be another voice suggesting Ektar. Certainly not cheap, but it *is* special....and not in a weird way.

Harman phoenix has it's uses for sure and I've made some very nice photos with it...but it's too "out there" right now for anything other than low contrast shots which fill the frame with the subject. Rumours of Phoenix II are yet to be proven true, but it might be on the way.
