This is a Soligor Spot Sensor II analog light meter. Before everything was good. Someone had it for a couple of days and reported that he can't see the meter needle.

When I light a flashlight, I see the needle is parked at the far right, the level beyond the highest level. And the needle does not move when powered on. How can this be? I do not know if this meter is broken, or used inappropriately. But even with a strong flashlight going into the meter, the light level is still not strong enough to go all the way to the right. Would a wrongly inserted battery make this happen?

Since this is an analog meter, I suspect the signal circuit loop is broken; burned motor; or the needle stuck somewhere. So far very likely the motor is burned. By what and how?

There is a small screw in the front that controls the zero setting of the needle. Try turning this screw to see if it helps.

I strongly suspect the needle has been knocked out of balance and off its pivot.

Turning the zero reset screw does not do a thing. When I shake the meter, the needle is not moving. So I think the needle is stuck. Likely a mechanical problem, probably out of pivot.

So I should open it and release the needle and it should be ok?

So likely the meter had some shock and made the needle out of its normal position? But how can the needle went all the way to the far right? There is not enough strong light to make it go that far.

The other possibility is that, some very strong light came in. The needle swing very quickly to the right and experienced a mechanical shock. This knocked the needle out of place. But the light has to be very strong the meter has a very wide light range.

It sounds to me that the meter has been subject to shock damage possibly by being dropped.

Could have been dropped or jarred. But some meters use foam on a stop to keep the needle from going too far.
The foam converts to goo just like light seals
