Smallest 35mm or 110 camera with ultra wide lens?

I concur with Huss above. If you want wide and small and convenient without spending a fortune, then the Nikon AF600 is a great little camera.

im not sure why people are talking about 28mm lenses when op wants an ultrawide.

If the budget is $200 and it doesnt have to be the very lightest / smallest quality combination (which will cost $$$) might as well just get a 2000s plastic nikon for $20 and use the existing lens.

@Les Sarile Oh the camera is for my partner, she has been using the Nikkormat too, likes the wide angle lens I have with it. Doesn't like how heavy it is though, she wants something a bit more compact. I was curious to know what was out there
@Chan Tran The MX does sound pretty good to me too

I wonder if your 17mm is compatible for use on a Nikon FG which is more full featured manual camera then the Nikkormat and is also the lightest of the lineup. It's usually available at a modest price. If not then the FM or FE - slighly larger and heavier then the FG but smaller and lighter then the Nikkormat.

ultrawides are a relatively newish subclass of lenses from 24mm and wider. Once the lens companies went ballistic and started inventing lenses that had never existed before like 10mm rectilinear lenses, 15mm shifts, and 14mm to 18mm zooms they all got lumped into the category of ultrawide

I agree.
I'm just wanting to know more precisely what the OP is looking for.
The 22-55 EF Zoom that I use sometimes with my Canon Rebel 2000 makes for a moderately compact kit, and might very well suffice.
It is an interesting lens, in that it was designed as a kit lens for the Canon APS SLRs, but was made in EF mount, with enough coverage to give pleasing results on full frame.

That lens on an EM or FG would make a very easy-to-carry package. An EM is virtually auto-exposure, but it's a perfectly capable camera otherwise. You can cheat the auto-exposure by changing the iso if necessary.

Those ultrawide primes can get pricey. I wonder if the Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm zoom are good? I have a couple of Series 1 zooms that are quite good but not that ultrawide which seems reasonably priced even on ebay. There are others so this might be a case of getting the lens first and worrying about a body after . . .

Because he wrote this in the initial statement:

Similar small cameras totally rules out any kind of 35mm slr etc.
But he was obviously unclear as to what he was asking for if he thought an 18mm lens on a 110 camera is ultra wide. It is just a 35mm equivalent.

So some of us suggested other very small cameras with wide angle lenses, like the Nikon AF600 which is tiny, but has a super 28mm lens. Which at least is wider than his 18mm on a 110.

I will now post this - 17mm pancake on a 35mm camera..

Here is my take on it. 8mm single lens reflex camera with a 5.5mm rectilinear lens and a WA converter. Effective focal length about 2.5mm. It is not a fisheye. This is the shortest focal length camera lens I have.

In terms of 16mm still German wide angle, the Rollei 16 with the Carl Zeiss wide angle "Mutar" is the first that comes to mind. In Japan there was the Steky with wide angle lens.

Wasn't there a 21mm lens on the Vivitar Ultra Wide and Slim?

Another vote for the Vivitar, very small and light full-frame with a 1/2 decent lens.

The Vivitar used to be $17.99 or something. A copy is now made and sold under a dozen brands at a cult price of $80-100. At that price there isn't anything to recommend the camera, except as a vehicle for separating fools from their money.

Great fun with this lens - and for not big price. I got it after I have seen your post some time ago.
Here is it on even smaller camera (LTM If), and also here is smallest 28mm "full frame" lens that I have, on Fujifilm ZoomDate 1300.
