Just a note that the prints I recv'd from anikin and paul_c5x4 were gorgeous
and well printed. I've asked for Joe O'Brien's mail without response, but his post
suggested he wouldn't be able to print til 'late august' anyway - looking forward to
that exchange as well. For my part, this has been great, an opportunity to make and
share some homemade prints, thanks everyone for the participation, I'm in for the next!

Hello to everyone in my group! The prints I have received have been absolutely incredible Paul_c5x4 and anikin. dasBlute, I'm very sorry I missed you message asking for my mailing address, I've just PM'd it to you. Hopefully My prints will be out in the mail soon, Things were a bit more crazy when I returned to college then I had expected. Renovations that should have been done to the art building are still underway so my professor was a bit behind schedule getting in our order for toners and some other chemicals. Hopefully they should arrive soon. Again, I am extremely sorry for the delay in getting my prints out to you guys.

Laurent,
Glad it arrived safely.

Thanks also to Rüdiger, I love that print and how the 'color' of the print closely matches the rattan.

Thanks
TJ

Hello all,

as for the postcard exchange, I have to apologize for being late in sending my prints, and for my lazyness on commenting the prints I received...

In the past weeks, I received :

A very nice close up of chairs by Rüdiger. The composition is very nice, and so is the print.

Marius Hauge's skyscape. Very dark print, which put all the interest on the sun (moon ?) and the clouds around it, and makes me try to guess what the landscpae looks like... Well done !

TJ's three prints.
The two butterflies on a wall paper show very nice textures.
The portrait of Justin at 2 is absolutely lovely. The eye contact is very strong, and the print very well done.
The third one os a view of a beach and rocks, with very transparent water. Lots of details and textures, which I like a lot !

Thanks to you three.

I think I have decided what negatives I'll print, and hope I'll be able to print them this week.

Cheers !

I recieved a very nice print from Matt King. Nice tone, wonderfully sharp. Good perspective correction, so that the supporting piles do not converge to the sky. Quite the spot to fish from.

My son was asking about what the pilings were for. We live inland where there are no tides, so I explained how the deck floated guided by the piles. Looks like the dock is built to accomodate quite a tide and storm surge.

The overmat was very nice. I would recommend you fiddle with the blade depth on your angle cutter, or amount of overcut needed if you are angle cutting freehand thought.
The effect could be from either. The overcut corners tended to pull my eye a bit too much. Mat cutting is a bit of a skill that takes time to build, and you mentioned that cutting your own mats is new to you.

Thanks Mike.

No perspective correction used - in this case I was able to ensure that the verticals didn't converge by merely using the bubble levels on my tripod. It helps that the ramp out to the float made it possible to set up at near half-height of the pilings.

The dock is at an end of what used to be one of two main channels of the Fraser River, but is now just a fairly long arm of the river that no longer connects to the other main channel at that end. It does raise and lower with ocean tides, but not nearly as much as the pilings would indicate.

The main use of the dock is as a launching place for multi-person rowing skulls. A number of competitive rowers use this waterway as a practice facility. I've wondered if the high pilings are there because the bottom is soft, and because it may be necessary to "adjust" their height over time.

And yes, I'm new to this mat cutting business, so my corners are inconsistent at present - I'm learning as I go though, so hopefully anyone else getting matted prints from me in the future will see little or no overcut.

Hi Laurent,

Yes, yes, yes your prints have arrived. Evidently you did not get my new address and the package went to my old address to which I had chosen not to have the mail forwarded from. Not to worry though, my old postal carrier recognized the envelope as something special and wrote my girlfriends name on it and put a forwarding sticker on it. It arrived earlier this week.

Very nice btw, the subject matter is right up my alley and I love the fact that the two images appear to have been taken next to each other when in fact they are 60 kilometers apart.

My prints will be on there whey soon, sorry I have been so slow with them.

Laurent/Ruediger, thank you for your comments, glad to hear you liked the print. It's one of my favourites so far.

TJ/Roger, I hope my print makes its way to you safely.

I have been so mired in work and home renovations that I haven't had much time for the internet world over the past couple weeks. Part of the renovation was related to photography though. I've been trying to figure out what to do with all these cool postcards/prints I've been getting from around the world. I hate to hide them away in a box or drawer to just occasionally pull them out to look at them. So, I have dedicated a wall in our home to the works that other Apuggers have shared with me. The wall is painted with magnetic primer and I've already got a couple dozen postcards/prints stuck to it. It's pretty cool and has become a focal point for everyone who comes to visit.

TJ/Laurent/Ruediger I have received your prints and they are stuck to the wall. All so different, but I really like them all. Thank you.

I see in my Inbox that Ruediger has sent out the addresses for the postcard exchange (yes, I am that far out of touch), so I better get working on those now.

Thanks again everyone. Take care,
Craig

Today I have received a New Years present from Joe O'Brien. A very interesting print of what looks like an interior of a tool shed. I love the composition and tones! It's the kind of a photo that invites a lot of studying and guessing of what the things are in there. A great puzzle! By the way, it even started as a puzzle because Joe did not indicate what exchange it was, so I had to do some figuring out where to post this message :D

Not me this time around.- I had three to receive from round one, and to date have had one, albeit a nice one, arrive.

Yes please! Although I'm behind on my postcards so I'd better get those done this weekend.

Thanks Ruediger,

Read this soon after getting home.. A few hours later, Postie woke me up to deliver another print. Indeed, a lovely little print that (I think) completes this round for me [note: Need to check back to see who I haven't notified on receipt of a print]

Anyone interested in doing a second round of this?

I found this to be good fun, so I'm up for another.

As I said in the "Blind Print exchange" thread, I'm in if this happens again.

BTW, if you should have received from me and did not, please PM me (I only saw 2 confirmations for 4 envelopes sent)

Cheers !

Dear all,
I am very, very sorry that I did not send out my prints yet, although I printed them looong ago
I was not entirely happy with them and thought about re-printing them, but then I had a long time in which I did not do any darkroom work at all. I feel very bad about it and promise to send the prints as soon as possible.

I forgot to mention I received three wonderful prints from Roger Thoms.
Roger, there was no need to apologize, but these 3 prints could buy you lots of excuses if they were needed ;-)

Of the 3, I think I have a little preference for the one with the box truck, as the perspective and "dynamic" of the image is wonderful

Thanks !
