sl66 shutter release question

I recently purchased a very clean sl66 that I am very proud to own. The shutter release however, seams to have an issue. IT seems to require more force than "normal" to manually push the shutter release button to the point of being a hinderance in delivering a stable shot. I have connected a cable release and it works fine.

I don't know if its a sticking issue due to lack of use , a lubrication issue or what. Basically once depressed it is slow to spring back as well.

Have any of you had this experience and is there anything I can do short of getting it professionally repaired to help the situation.

For what its worth the button seems to be seated inthe camera body securely but I notice that the release button is able to spin or be turned passed the lock or unlock detents.

I owned several SL66 bodies and never experienced this. It needs repair.

I would say a CLA is in order for your new baby, often not that expensive, but will ensure good service for a while to come..

Thanks for the input. I will get a CLA at some point....When I can do without her.

ON a lark I put some fingernail polish romover on a q-tip and applied it to the barrel of the release.

It now works silky smooth. Guess it just had a bit of gunk in there. I assume the stuff will evaporate an not leave residue. But it sure works.

The fingernail polish remover probably liquified the hardened grease and redeposited it elsewhere where it rehardened. Hopefully, it was just moved to some empty area in the body, where it won't cause you any problems.
