Ive seen some magazines printed with an ink that is metallic. Is there any way to get a metallic look with regular prints?

A local lab uses what they call 'metallic' paper. I don't know if that has anything to do with the look you're after, but knowing if has that description may help refine your search.

I think it's used in a chemical process, as someone who prints giclees only was disappointed at a workshop that she couldn't use it.

If someone else doesn't answer help with more specific info I can ask them (I might need a PM to remind me, however).

There's also a silver toner. Not sure what its long-term stability is, though.

Kentmere produced a bromide paper on various coloured bases, including metallic silver and gold. It was only available in one grade.

I can't see it on their website, but I've used a variety of colours and sizes over the years.

Kodak Endura Metallic...it's usually sold in rolls for labs, but you can get it at Freestyle in 11x14 or something. It's a weird paper. I want to try it for myself, but most of the examples I've seen really don't seem to work well with the paper. I think that if used with the right image it would be pretty cool. If I ever get around to trying it out, I'll post an example.

Hi,

There are toners which can do such a thing called Metalchrome or Halochrome AFAIK, Judy Seigel described a mix it your self variant in her "The World Journal of Post-Factory Photography", issue #3 (see: http://www.alternativephotography.com/books/js_post_factory.html ), and I believe Tim Rudmen also mentioned it in his book on toning.

I used it, and it works, but images go tacky/kitsch quickly.. ..

Best,

Cor

The German photochemistry company Tetenal up to about the year 2000 had a “Spiegelentwickler” (mirror-developer) in their program, which should have given silvery, metallic like `blacks´. Perhaps you can somehow inform on that recipe.

I sepia toned some prints earlier this year, and for some reason they came out with a bluish metallic sheen in the shadow areas. I still don't know what caused it, and it has not happened since. Paper was plain old Ilford MGIV RC, toner was Fotospeed ST20.
