Depends on usage. I’ve never used a F2 so my experience is with other Nikons. The Nikkormats I used on the job in rugged environments, underground mines and military exercises, were professionally overhauled after every other usage. Each usage was 2 week duration of 12-hour days. We couldn’t afford to miss a shot or carry more than 1 backup. My F3 has been for personal travel photography and has been well used but is somewhat pampered. It got professional overhaul every 15 years.

How old is your F2, when last overhauled, and how rough was the usage??? So… it depends. Only you can assess that.

... and if you don't know the camer's history yet worry about it... an overhaul would put your mind at ease about its condition and future reliability.

Unless you shot in a controlled environment, the negatives don't tell you much. As you may not have exposed correctly for the scene.

If you shot the exact same scene several times in the same lighting with the same camera settings, and then you have an image where the exposure is different than the others, then yes, you do have a problem. And if you do, it is way more likely to be in the camera than in the lens.

The lens is super easy to test. On the camera - change the aperture settings, set the camera to 1 sec , and looking into the lens dry fire it. It should snap closed to the set aperture, then snap open. If there is any lag or drag, then it will mess the exposure. Basically you only really need to check this at min aperture (f16 or f22), as if it works correctly there, pretty much it will be fine anywhere.

Good information, thanks…!

Shooting at 500th will tell you nothing if you don't also stick to the same subject with the same lighting and at the same aperture. Exposure can vary if any of these things vary and it doesn't make a good case for having a CLA just because you are getting inconsistent negatives with the camera at 500th, it's meaningless. Maybe get a good book on film photography and how cameras work first, and shoot some film, it will be cheaper than a knee jerk CLA to fix a problem that may not exist.

I sense you have been reading forums and seen the regular suggestion that all things are fixed with a CLA, sometimes they are but sometimes it's the photographer not understanding the equipment. There's no reason to suggest an immediate CLA is if there are no obvious problems to address, but it's just something to say, not because it is some deep wisdom.

I'd not listen to an advice about be VERY
I purposely shot with a 500 speed to determine if the shutter speed is correct. David at Process One said when he looked at the negatives that two or three were over exposed.

So, two or three shots (of many) at 1/500 in uncontrolled environment were overexposed and some person concludes that camera needs a CLA?!

Only sensible information from this is that you now know where NOT to send your camera for a CLA.

David never said my F2 needs a CLA.
My research if whether the F2 needs a CLA after all those years from its production to present tells it’s most likely in need of one…!
