sheet film holders on RB67?

Since the RB67 uses the graflok back, I would assume that there are graflex sheet film holders that will fit on it. Has anyone ever done this before?

Back in the mid-1990s Mamiya marketed a back for the RB or RZ (not sure which) called the Quadra; it made a 7x7cm square image on sheet film. I've never seen one anywhere except a magazine ad, however.

seems to me like a bit of a waste of film. You'll get a 7x7 or 8x8 square in the middle of a 4x5 neg. May as well go for a 6x8 back, unless you really need that extra 1-2 cm of coverage, or you want to use the zone system and want different development for single frames.

I suspect the old 2x3 Graflex RB DDS with the slots in the slides might work... but why? Yes, you gain individual image development control but the Mamiya RB has no Scheimpflug movements. If you're want to shoot sheet film, which is a hassle compared to roll film, why not gain more than just contrast control? Have you considered a Century Graphic with a Grafloc back? If my feeble brain hasn't completely failed me I think the old slotted holders will fit those.

Actually, I'm referring to 2.25 x 3.25 sheet holders, not 4x5. Something like the backs for a Century Graphic or Graflex XL.

I have several of the type J cut film sheet holders for the rb. They are a bit heavy and take a bit of practice to load, but they work well. They have inserts for 3.25" sheet film, which I like sometimes. And if you take the inserts out, you can shoot to glass plates (which I do too).

Here is an ebay link to a type A holder which appears identical to the type J, but I am not sure. Mine all say "type J" on them.

If you desire, you can also shoot to quickloads using an ordinary 545i 4x5 polaroid back for the rb. It's not quite as horribly wasteful as it sounds, you can get ~78x78mm squares. But yeah, a pricey way to shoot sheet film!

I also have some smaller sheet holders that I think can also be used on an rb, but the registry won't be correct and you'd need to correct for that. It'd probably be easy to make an adapter.

The quadra back works only with instant film... unless you modify it.

P.S. what you want is also sometimes called a "Double Cut Film Holder." If you google around you can probably still find some now and then.

I think the type A shown in the ebay link is a double sided model, if that helps. The Press System shows two types of CFH, A, and J (American & Japanese, apparently). I know the J is a single, not sure about the type A?? For Press the CFholders fit into a focus back, not direct onto the body.

Hmm, I am not at all familiar with the press. I guess you are right. Mine are rb holders.

Update: in universal press system i see two types of these Cut Film/Plate Holders
for G-adapter: Holders type A and J
for M-adapter: Holder model A(American size)
Holder model J(Japanese size)
Whats the difference?
i dont see version A anymore in pricelist 1991 of the press-system, also J only mentioned for rz67-g-adapter in newer prospectus.

1. They are both double.
2. Since name is double cutfilm/plate so also plates(glassplates?) can be used?
3. On all these three cameras Press, RB67/RZ67 the same holder-types "Type A and J"(not to confuse with "Model A and J") are listed in the overview. these are for G-adapters.(RB-backs) see above
in press and rb67 they can be used in focussing-screen-holder.

I have several 2x3 slotted film holders and several Graphmatics that I use with my RB67. Unlike the larger Graphmatics, those for 2x3 are all the same width whether originally made for Graflex or Graphic backs. The advantage is individual development of negatives.

Enjoy 10 shots per roll that can slip in your pocket instead of carrying a ton of loaded holders.

Easier to develope a roll than 10 sheets.
