My very recent shipments from B&H were FedEx. It seems to me that B&H might have some sort of “trusted shipper” relationship, though, that allows packages to go through without xray.
Hmmm. My last post didn’t show up as I thought I wrote it. “Trusted Shipper” relationship is what I thought I typed.
My last shipment, a month ago, was USPS. But I don’t recall if I requested that option or if they chose it.
I do their free shipping option, and it is FedEx Home Delivery.

There is also a chance that the UPS rules include a prohibition against shipping perishable goods, and the person at the local outlet is interpreting "perishable" as including photographic film.
I think B&H sorts, uses standard size boxes, meets some sort of density standard. I get FedEx express for most reasonably valuable items Home Delivery on most. DHL USPS for weird used smalls
With 2 international trips coming this year, I broke down and. bought a digital camera (used HB 907x 50c). Breaks my heart not to shoot film where I'm going, but finding 120 film after we arrive and then mailing it home to myself (what I do domestically, unless I have B&H send film directly to my location) is now becoming too worrisome.
I've done 3 international trips in the last year and it's a pain in the ass taking film.
A lot of the time security asked me to open the sealed film wrappers so they could look inside, other times they simply insisted it go through the xray machine or go into the trash.
A couple of times in a rush to get a connecting flight through Singapore they refused to let me take the film out of the carryon, and it ended up going through the xray at the boarding gate even though it was hand inspected before boarding the previous flight.
I just gave up after that experience and just take a little Fuji XT-2 now.

B&H to Montreal was for me always UPS Ground in the last 10 years, with or without film in the order... But my last order with film from them is a year ago, so if there was a recent change, it might have changed. Had still one non-film order from them last month, which was as always UPS Ground.
I checked with B&H Photo and they said: "... film is shipped using FedEx. They do not x-ray our packages..."

I had this happen once on a Leica I sold on the other side of the country. Finally got some one the USPS PO to grab the package. I didn't do a good enough job of blackening out my address so depending with way the package passed under the bar code scanner determined where it was headed. Good reason to remove all labels on a box.
I bought something a few weeks ago, shipped usps from 20 miles away from me( shipped just south of Boston to me just north of boston) it was sent to Philadelphia for some reason....?

To clarify B&H's response. They said if the shipment goes by air, which would be the case except for nearby deliveries, a plane is used and that it is open to x-rays. Local deliveries are by FedEx and won't be xrayed. If you want special shipments, ask them when you place your order.
After 39 posts and about 4 days are we any closer to arriving at a definitive answer as to what USPS' policy is in terms of CT scanning a package that contains undeveloped film?

Yes, it's the same policy as used for any other type of package.
Sent by ground it probably wont, but possibly could.
Sent by air it probably will, but may not..

If you write on the box, photographic film-do not xray, it will get xrayed
Then it won't be x rayed, because you wanted it fogged, and it's just human nature...
This. They are horrible where I live. The USPS and FedEx are much better.
