Hi,

I have recently designed a device that allows scanning negatives with a DSLR and made a working prototype. The idea of DSLR scanning is certainly not new. But i think i managed to make it accurate, convenient and affordable. I also tested it on some of my own negatives and sorted out a proper workflow in LightRoom to correct the color nicely. The results look good.
I actually started with a design for 35mm film and slides but, after a discussion with a pro photographer, decided to add a 120 film option.
This photographer also advised me to present my device at Photrio which I am doing.
I'm planning to start an Indiegogo campaign very soon. Before I do, I would like to hear the voice of a potential customer and make adjustments if needed.

Could you please let me know if you're interested in getting such a device?
I can share a draft copy of my campaign with detail about the design and i would be happy to hear your comments. And if you are so kind to give feedback, you get a 5% discount .

Just to give you an idea:
- It is very fast
- It keeps the film firmly in focus
- It provides great quality scans (as good as your camera)
- It features a high quality LED light source with a great CRI
- The film is firmly clamped which help to keep the negative in focus
- You have full control over exposure and color (shooting in RAW)
- It is compact and you can disassemble to make it even more compact for storage
- There is no need to send your precious negatives anywhere
- No messing with frames
- No need to cut film rolls
- The price varies from 30 to 75 euro depending on the configuration

Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Ilja

I might be interested in such a device but I'm a cheapskate so it would probably have to be at the lower end of the price range you mentioned, especially with shipping costs from Europe. But, I was wondering how the negative strip is advanced within the plastic holder - is there any risk of scratches doing it? Can you show some examples of photos you've scanned using the device?

I have sent you a link via a conversation (my draft Indiegogo campaign). A negative gets clamped between two plastic plates. When you slide the film, you release the clamp so it is not scratching. There are no sharp edges because the plates are laser-cut. As for the shipping, it's gonna be about 15 euro to Canada. I wish i could find a cheaper shipping (feel free to suggest if you know any)
Example scans are below (35mm negative, simple fujifilm I believe):
1) cheap and simple scanner for negatives (Grundig, to be precise)
2) dedicated flatbed scanner with a special adapter for negatives (Canoscan 9000f MkII)
3) my device combined with Canon 700D

Did you patent it? If not someone can make the same device with the picture you posted.
