I develop my 4x5s -- primarily FP4 -- with Pyrocat-HD. Is there any consensus on how best to capture pyro staining when the negatives are scanned? If I scan them as a color negative I can manage the RGB balance, which I'm guessing would provide a way to best control the influence of staining. Isn't t the actual color of the stain dependent on several parameters (such as emulsion and base), and if so, would scanning the negative as a positive color slide yield useful information about the actual color and how to make the most of (or least of, depending on intent) the stain?

Hi Duane

The best answer would be to try in RGB 16 bit and in Greyscale 16bit the best you can.. then open up in PS and by checking the L values using the info palette, as well visual observation you will get your answer..

FWIW I scan in 16bit Grey scale for PMK negatives and have been happy with the results

Thanks for the responses. After a little experimentation, I think that scanning it as a 24-bit color negative, and then adjusting each of the RGB channels before converting to grayscale seems to work very well.
