Hello everyone, I have a stupid question. I currently own a V600 and an Epson 4990. I use the V600 to scan my 35mm film and I hate the results. I bought the ANR glass inserts from betterscanning and some film stills culrs up under the weight of the glass.

I recently started shooting 8x10 and using the 4990 you end up putting the negative on top of the glass and I have had pretty good results. I am wondering, and I know the answer will probably be "just try it", what can I expect from scanning 35 mm directly on the glass and covered by the 8x10 ANR glass sheet that betterscanning sells to scan 8x10. I am hoping that the weight of the larger glass sheet will make the film flat and that the quality I will loose by virtue of the negative being below the focus distance of the scanner will be made up by my film not looking like a half pipe.

Any experience using a set up similar to this?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about scanning with the 4990, but I get decent results from my V500 by taping my curly film to the ANR Glass Inserts to hold them flat.

Usually just the ends but occasionally I have also taped along the sprocket holes. I admit that it is a pain but at least its possible with the ANR inserts. It was a huge problem with only the normal Epson holders.

I have also heard that the new digitaLIZA holders from Lomography work terrific but I haven't tried one yet.
